Whilst im in NO way condoning what Grisoft have done with the latest AVG we are in an internet age now whereby nasties just keep on coming at an ever increasing rate and it seems to me the only way to keep up with that is to increase the power of the anti virus software? And lets be honest, whats 38 Mb on even a gig of ram??
Though I have to say if you have a slow computer then the latest AVG really is no good for you.:idea:0 -
In a full scan, AVG 8 Free was using ~ 20MB of RAM across three processes. In comparison, Firefox is currently using 127MB and MSN Messenger is using 33MB.
That's with link checking disabled. When it comes to a point where 10MB is becoming a performance issue then you need to invest in some more RAM.0 -
Actually my point was that Avira is better and lighter on resources.
AVG just seems....accident prone.0 -
I've got a couple of computers that don't currently have internet connections on which I've been trying to AVG 8 manually, but whenever I try to do this the updates are not recognised. When I select the directory the program just says "no new updates detected" yet the virus database is still out of date, the last update it recognised was in July.
Any ideas? just spent a fruitless hour searching for hints on this from the net.... btw the time/date settings are both correct.
cheers very much0 -
I was happy with AVG 7, AVG 8 now takes 8 hours to run! Anyone know why?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
