Confused!!!!!!!

Options
I am trying to get rid of some programs on my computer. I goto add/remove programs to delete them and it starts the process then comes up with this:-

Another application has exclusive access to the file 'C:Windows\system32\wbem\Repository\FS\MAPPING.VER'
Please shut down all other applications, then click retry.

I have no idea what this is all about. Can anyone point me in the right direction please as i want to get rid of these programs.
If i could i would, but i cannot so i wont, but maybe one day i will.

You may need to boot into safe mode ( press F8 as windows starts to boot ) and then try and unistall. Safe mode only lets essential things start should should leave the file unused.

    What program are you uninstalling?

The mapping.ver file can be related to both legitimate and malicious programs. However, very often it is installed and used by the infamous Aurora parasite. I suggest deleting the file. Nevertheless, it is highly recommended to check your variant of mapping.ver using an Anti Virus first.

Advast or AVG have free anti virus programs, also run Adware or SpyBot on your computer. If you need to know where to find them, just type their names into google or visit https://www.download.com and have a look at their top 20 list...

    Hope that helps

Thanks for the info. I do have Norton anti-virus running on my system and it never shows up as a virus.

Try running CCleaner first incase there is a bad Registry key, then boot into safe mode as the other guy's have suggested.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
  • Still no joy on this problem. I have tried to start up in safe mode several times but it will not have it. It starts to go into safe mode then restarts in normal mode by itself. I have yet to down load and try ccleaner. I dont think it is a virus or parasite.
I still need to get rid of this program. But now it has hilighted another problem that i cannot run in safe mode.
    O the joys of computering!

Does it run through the safe mode start up script? Lots of line flashing up the screen?

It does everything it should when trying to go into safe mode as far as i know untill it comes up with user sign in. I've got the choice of Administrator or User. It does'nt matter what one i press the same thing happens, the computer restarts in normal mode.
I done a full anti-virus scan and there is nothing coming up regarding the Aurora parasite.
