I send about 200 texts to a friend in Italy and are trying to finding a cheap way of sending texts from my mobile phone and for my friend to send cheaper texts from Italy to U.K. I am on T-Mobile network and he is on Wind and also Vodophone Omitel. At the moment I am charged 17p per text. Many thanks for any advice

o2 text messages abroad cost 10p if you register with their international calling bolt on. Normally is a one off £5 payment, but it is free at the moment

if your mobile has java on it, you should try http://www.smsbug.com
it works out at roughly 2p per international text

How can you tell your phone has Java on it? I bought a PAYG Orange Phone when I was in Scotland earlier this year. I txt to relatives & friends from it over here & they txt me back. I usually get 15 pound credit when needed. It usually costs 50p a text. Would I be able to use smsbug or something similar do you think?

If you post the make and model number of your Orange handset, someone will know if it is suitable for using this service. Alternatively you may still be able to find your particular phone on the Orange website, where they list the features etc.

I don't see why you are paying 50p per SMS as according to this link the price per SMS is only 20p and a voice call is 40p per minute to Australia.

If you are sending a video message, then that does cost 50p to Australia.

  • AussieLass,
the 3510i is Java enabled. And it supports GPRS (which smsbug needs).
...and then the window licker said to me...

How does the java route work? I text Australia regularly and it costs me 13p per text. You said it costs roughly 2p per text. Does that charge come from being online through your phone or are you actually charged per text?

    Thanks very much.

how it works is this you pay for the connection to be online and than using the java client the sms is sent by smsbug server. Cause sms is not much in data size the cost is like 1p in GPRS charges and than other 1p to send it through SMSbug server.
