iam tommorrow handing my notice at work,i dont think the manager is going to be there, but will give it to the assistant manager,i envisage theres going to be a few choice words spoken to me,what are my rights??if i feel iam getting spoken to badly, can i go home,or will this reflect badly on my new job when they contact them for a reference??

i have another job to go to,but they still want references from my boss just now,i dont reckon i,ll see the week out as my boss will spend every minute of every day of the week trying to presuade me to staywhy would there be a few choice words spoken? Walk out, and it could affect your reference, and future job prospects.Live in my shoes for a week, then tell me your lifes hard!0 -
no as i have to give a weeks notice, and new job wants me to start on mon 8th septI would advise against walking out without seeing out your notice, especially if you are depending on a good reference. Just let it wash over you. Can't you wait until the manager is in?Live in my shoes for a week, then tell me your lifes hard!0 -
Smile sweetly and tell him that this week will be longer for him than it will be for you and that it will be So Very Pleasant to say goodbye to him. Hello peediedj
I've just noticed your location is Aviemore. I try to have a holiday in the highlands of Scotland every year and Aviemore is a favourite place to stay.;)
If you are worried about some 'choice words' from the assistant manager, can you hand over your letter of resignation when there is a witness (eg other people around) present.............rather than just you and him/her?
If that can't be avoided, try not to rise to the bait..........keep your composure, keep a dignified silence and your self respect.;)
Remember that however stressful the situation will be for you, you have the upper hand. The manager or assistant manager won't be prepared for the 'resignation announcement' moment, you will.;)
Good luck in your new job.

it would be legally acceptable for you to give a week's notice on Monday morning to leave on Friday , you are still giving one working week's notice and the manager i presume would be in thenmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Unfortunately, it has to be a clear week - so the first day doesn't count, not even from the beginning of the day. So OP is correct to hand in notice on Friday to leave at close of work on the following Friday.0 -
Think youre wrong littlevoice. I have worked in personnel for 22 years and this is normal in our factory when lads leave. Why would you think the first days is discounted if the notice was handed in at start of the day. it would still be 5 full working days - 1 full working weekmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Normal in your factory may be a concession on what another outfit could enforce?anniehanlon wrote: »Think youre wrong littlevoice.
