    Hello peediedj

I've just noticed your location is Aviemore. I try to have a holiday in the highlands of Scotland every year and Aviemore is a favourite place to stay.;)

If you are worried about some 'choice words' from the assistant manager, can you hand over your letter of resignation when there is a witness (eg other people around) present.............rather than just you and him/her?

If that can't be avoided, try not to rise to the bait..........keep your composure, keep a dignified silence and your self respect.;)

Remember that however stressful the situation will be for you, you have the upper hand. The manager or assistant manager won't be prepared for the 'resignation announcement' moment, you will.;)

Good luck in your new job.

    Regards

    Nile
well i handed my notice in this morning, totally mis judged the assistant manager he was great about it,asked why i wanted to leave,i told him all the reasons why and he said i totally agree with you in everythin you have said!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we had a good chat and he admitted he had been "forced" into the job himself, and if he knew what it was like would never have taken the job,and wants out himself
now got the manager(who wasnt in today, but asistant manager was going to phone him after work)phoning my molbie at home,i ignored the 1st call,no doubt more will follow, they did about 3 nights ago:rolleyes:

Think youre wrong littlevoice. I have worked in personnel for 22 years and this is normal in our factory when lads leave. Why would you think the first days is discounted if the notice was handed in at start of the day. it would still be 5 full working days - 1 full working week
was always under the impression it was 7 days from when you want to leave i,e fri-fri

only in my experience, ACAS say 1 week which is ambiguous. So it depends totally on personal or company interpretation.

ignore the managers calls, he has no right to disturb your personal time,
he may be trying to get you to stay but he can do that on Monday morning.

Glad everything went okay today for you and good luck in your new job.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

It was you who thought I was wrong: I'm not trying to prove you wrong but to give you some official evidence for my belief.

(I don't wish to admit to how many decades I'm counting! And, yes, I know that often employers accept notice given on a Monday as being acceptable notice for leaving on the same week's Friday but some other employers can be difficult.)

rise above it, get through the week and if you keep thinking about closing time on Friday you'll be walking around with a smile on your face all week:j

perhaps he is trying to contact you to tell you not to bother going into work on saturday? also, i dont think companies are allowed to give a 'bad' reference. I dont know the exact laws, or how they are seen by employees, though.

Hi I would just smile sweetly and say to manager that you think they are wonderful, and you will be sorry to leave but your circumstances have forced the move.
I told my previous employer (where i was a shift worker) I would apply to work evenings and weekends with them to supplement new job wages (I never set foot in the building again!)
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)
