handing notice in?

perhaps he is trying to contact you to tell you not to bother going into work on saturday? also, i dont think companies are allowed to give a 'bad' reference. I dont know the exact laws, or how they are seen by employees, though.
If an employer does decide to respond to a reference request then they owe a duty of care both to the applicant (current or previous employee) and the potential employer. So they can, for instance, say that someone was late every other day, refused reasonable management requests, fought with a co-worker, or whatever - as long as it is true.
On the other hand, to give a misleading reference (glowing when the applicant was dismissed for incompetence for instance) is not acceptable.0 -

In your factory, maybe. But unless common practice or your contract states a week is five days, it would be seven as it is everywhere else in the world. The OP didn't say the notice period is a full working week (5 days) - they said it was a week (7 days).I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -
my boss came in yesterday, gave him my notice, and he was far from happy, says i shouldnt have given notice to assitant manager as is confidential, also said if i left he might as well go to! he was going to speak to regional director to get more money(a bit more than what my new jobs paying)and put me thru my hgv,i didnt mention money when i spoke to him,and even if he offered me a wage increase i wouldnt want to stay,i stated that due to being 1 staff member short permenantly now my workload had increased to the extent that i didnt usually get my lunch some days until 3 and even then it was rushed at my desk for 5 mins then back working,he said the assitant manager should do more, but i know from speaking to the assitant he aint happy with what hes doing now without getting more put on him,so cant see that working.iam gonig to a rival firm(although 30 miles away from our branch)and he gave me some rubbish about there renowned for taking people on and paying them off within weeks due to credit crunch(if buisness was that bad they wouldnt of employed me in 1st place)so we,ll see what he says tommorrow, but if i say iam still leaving i know he wont leave it at that,he didnt with assistant managers job
he also said he thinks i will never have a boss as understanding as him towards my sons disabilites(although i have only had 2 hrs off due to my son in 2 years i have been there)yet when he was speaking to me yesterday my brother in law,who was looking after my son phoned up to speak to me and he told him i wasnt there, atlhough i was sitting next to him,yet for all he knows my bil could of been phoning up to say my son was having a seizure, very understanding.....notLive in my shoes for a week, then tell me your lifes hard!0
