A long shot but can you help? Cats needing homes asap!

Options
Hiya peoples,

This is a long shot but one of my work colleagues is having to move from her house into rented accomadation due to money issues and the landlord will not allow her to take her 2 male 12 year old cats with her.

She has tried all the local rescues (we are in Bedfordshire) but they are full due to a lot of people being in her situation and too many kittens.

I am sorry if this is not allowed mods so please delete if needs be but she is desperate to find them a home together within next 2 weeks and i just wondered if anyone here reading could help or know of any rescue centres that could take them as she is willing to travel to take them to a good home.

I have more info on them if anyone can help.

Thanks for reading. :o

  • She could try Preloved.

I don't mean to sound harsh but personally I would just find another place. Plenty of landlords allow pets, she may just have to have a larger deposit.

Shes had her house repossed (SP?) so its not that easy, she was thinking about it but she has no choice but to move ASAP.

  • Do you know if she has actually asked the landlord if they will accept cats? All the places I have ever rented have specified 'no pets' on the advert/tenancy agreement. I've approached the lettings agency and in one place the landlord directly and have explained that I had (at the time) one sedate elderly cat who was fully littertrained and they were fine about it. I only had to pay a larger deposit on one house and I got it all back when I moved out. These have all been nice shiny new builds with cream carpets etc not scuzzy places. It seems that the standard ad says no pets but if she approached them they may well accept two quiet, well behaved cats as opposed to a pack of 10 big loud dogs!

If the cats do find a rescue place it's likely they will be in a pen for many months as there are not many prospective homes that want a 12 year old cat let alone two, that's the harsh reality I'm afraid :o Really hope she can sort something out for them, must be a terrible situation to be in.

Yes shes asked and asked again today as it seems nowhere can take them ,has offered double deposit and extra rent but they won't budge :(

Its through a letting agent but the owners are elderly and don't want the hassle of pets in the house and sorting it out once they moved.

try catchat.org and purrsinourhearts.co.uk - they are websites dedicated to cat rehoming and seem to be frequented by Cats Protection workers. also try catplanet.co.uk

please try to avoid listing them on sites such as gumtree or preloved as "Free To Good Home", some people will just come and get the cats and then try to sell them on, even if it is just for a few quid.

good luck, what a heartbreaking situation. the rescues are over run at the moment...kitten season! the credit crunch is also taking its toll on capacity on the centres - your friend's situation being a perfect example.

Oh bless her, she must be heart broken.

I'd be very tempted to just move in with the cats and hide bowls etc when LA visit. They have to give 24hrs notice before popping over so it's possible...

She was going too but the landlord lives in the house behind so would see them out and about

I am actually a volunteer for the Cats Protection League and we can't take them at our branch thats why i am really trying to help her.

I would have them but my 2 and 3 year old cats probably wouldn't like it. I am in rented too but not allowed pets so have to do what you say Bridget, they get taken to my Dads for the day :o
