Mummygems, I buy the "smart price" fruit and veg. I find that they taste fine although they are smaller, but I still use the same number (eg I still only eat one apple for breakfast). Good for my purse and for my waistline!
I'm afraid that's the only advice I can offer. I grow some in my garden too but, like yours, my beans and salad have been eaten by some hungry pest...0 -
Hiya guys,
trying to stay out of the shops today and save the budget, meatballs from the freezer for lunch today. Making spag bol and lasania to put back in.
Got lots more blackberries to go in freezer, and the apples are coming on, not very big though, and toms seem to have finished, if they are only tiny, some red some staying green, can they still be used in a tom sauce, will put finished plants in compost bin now.

Thanks ladies. I do buy the value fruit & veg but its not always possible (like this week I needed butternut squash for a recipe but got this on the market).
I love strawberries but they are the most expensive thing I eat! I have loads of strawberry plants in the garden but only now am I seeing any fruit on them (well I have 2 strawberries just about to ripen from 12 plants) and I have had them since June! My mum and me shared the delivery of plants and she has had bucket fulls of strawberries.
I shall persevere though.

My OH popped down to Lidls last night to pick up a few items we needed.. came back having spent £14!! I could have cried. It isn't that he bought anything silly, just that it is another big chunk out of our budget. I got a bit down actually, I feel like I am failing my own challenge and I made our budget ridiculously generous I thought,(though it was a lot less than we had been spending)
Oh well - I come here and I read how well everyone is doing and it perks me up no end! This is only my first month and if I don't make it, I will just try again next month, but I haven't given up yet!!
Made Lemon curd icecream last night and peanut butter cookies - they were fab!! (made the lemon curd from scratch with cheap value lemons and cream knocked down cos of sell by date)
Hugs to all who need them

I spent 89p on 4 apple turnovers this morning because we were going to a friends house for coffee. I was quite pleased that was all we had spent. We were doing a mystery shop for lunch, but it was being refurbished when we got there so ended up going somewhere else which then cost money!!!! Not fairFirst Direct Loan @ 7.9% £13,076.03/£20,250

Was having a NSD but LO fell and cracked her head on the way home from school so spent 55p on a kinder egg to ease the pain:o She has an almighty lump on her forehead!
Quick question, is anyone else having trouble with potatoes lately? I used to buy a big bag of value a month and they would last right through. I'm not fussy about cutting eyes etc off but they are going really soft and horrible within a week nowAs soon as i get home i take them out the plastic bag and put them in a cloth bag in a dark cupboard, only problem is my flat is very warm. Is there anything i can do to make them last longer?
