To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

  • :j Still on track for number of NSDs:j and I seemed to have got a fair amount of food which can last, but still need fresh stuff like eggs and milk

Was determined yesterday not to spend, so when I ran out of bread for my packed lunch I simply made some!

I realised the night before that I had none left, and being a newbie to bread making, I made the dough and left it to rise over night to pop in the oven first thing so it would cook whilst I got ready for work.

Of course it had risen and sank again, but I flung it in the oven anyway, and whilst very heavy,(like a brick:D ) it tasted divine!

In fact I had more with tomato soup for my tea!

Before os & gc I would have simply resigned myself to buying a soggy sandwich which costs the earth, so thank you for all your support and inspiration!:T

Well I managed to go to Tesco after I had taken DS to the Dentist.
So I spent £123.86 !!! So scarey. The girls had spent £29.29 yesterday on things for the babies. It came out of my money becuase they had overdrawn in the bank. I cannot see me being anywhere near my targets this month as its only the 11th oF September! 19 more days to go..Agh,,, plot lost!

Mooloo, I haven't read all your thread but enough to realise something of the pressure you're under and I'm amazed at how well you're coping with things :T

    I think you must be kind to yourself and cut yourself some slack with the GC budget;

Sending positive vibes to you ;)

  • Can I make a suggestion as an addition to the October Grocery Challenge?

One thing we have tried to cut back on is mileage. We live 10 miles away from the supermarket so only go if we are passing rather than a special journey or get free deliveries. I honestly don't know how much I spend on petrol in a month, but I would like to limit it to £200. This isn't necessarily something that needs a new thread or reporting on, but knowing how much this challenge has changed how I shop and what I buy I thought recording fuel costs or public transport costs may make myself and other people stop and think a little bit too! :)

MRSMC - hope you slept well last night after the mystery was solved!! LOL:rotfl: 85 Cookbooks - that's some serious addiction, I thought I was bad with 60 at the last count!! LOL:rotfl:

Off now to catch up with all the other pages.;)
I have approx 200, but I just admit I do read them for pleasure sometimes instead of picking up a novel.

Have just unearthed Delis's Complete Cookery Course and found the mincemeat recipe in there so will be making some of that as have been given 2 large carrier bags full of cooking apples, the rest will be peeled and chooped and put into the freezer for crumbles etc during the coming months, lovely cheap pudds.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).

  • OH went to a new local Sainsburys again last night and he bought a lot of food reduced to 20p and all could be frozen:

    5 x Egg fried rice
    4 x Guinsters Pasties
    2 x Covent garden soups
    1 x Quiche Lorraine
    4 x TTD crumpets

He also got 3 packets of Chinese starters that can be frozen reduced to 50p and they had Prawn Toast, Spring Rolls and King Battered Prawns and 2 curries for 50p.
