I'm thinking that you will need a start up disc, at the least for a repair installation.
See what the others have to suggest and I'll come back to it this evening with the links to a suitable disc if necessary.

Everything is fixable. I'm just surprised no one has come to your aid.
First of all I recommend that you use a Live CD to rescue your photographs.Avira AntiVir Rescue System
The Avira AntiVir Rescue System a linux-based application that allows accessing computers that cannot be booted anymore. Thus it is possible to repair a damaged system, to rescue data or to scan the system for virus infections. Just double-click on the rescue system package to burn it to a CD/DVD. You can then use this CD/DVD to boot your computer. The Avira AntiVir Rescue System is updated several times a day so that the most recent security updates are always available.

I haven't used the particular tool myself, so I don't know the interface.
See how you get on with it, if it doesn't do the job, I'll point you towards another Live CD(a system whereby you have access to the files on your computer without overwriting them).0 -
How are you managing to post frisbee? Do you have another PC?
If you do you could perhaps put the hard drive from the broken computer into the one you are using (as a slave drive) and recover stuff off it.0 -

I was going to suggest something like that by using ubuntu
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD
but then I was thinking it would only work on the computer it was made from, however I guess if it used a basic set of drivers as I suspect wot u recommedned
must do it will work on any PC?0
