    Thanks Analyst for your advice.
Will give Natwest a few months to see if they give me a Servicecard and/or credit card.
Failing which it may well be a case of 'Hello TSB'
Very disappointing to learn that good conduct on the initial step account doesn't help in any way.
Wonder if my new current account will be monitored internally or not?
Will my savings accounts be taken into account at all?
Are BT and other utility supplies reported to CRA's.
Take it my Provident payment record will not be recorded which is a shame.
Going to ATTEMPT to get a mobile contract in the hope that that may improve my credit score.

What you were told is not strictly true. Account conduct on a Step account is taken into account for internal applications.

Well, having recently applied for and getting declined for an overdraft then a credit card to say I am TOTALLY disillusioned with Natwest is an understatement.
My salary is credited fortnightly, I have money in my savings accounts I think its high time to go 'hunting' for a new bank.
Does ANYBODY know how Natwest rates its existing customers?
Anybody know about the INTERNAL ratings?

Er if you have a really bad credit rating, no amount of internal credit scoring can overcome that. Sorry. if you don't think you have bad credit then yes, by all means, go elsewhere.

How long did it take for your defaults to 'drop off' if you dont mind me asking, if anyone else knows I'd apprieciate it.

    Thanks

Defaults usually 'drop off' your credit files - 6 years after they are settled. [quoted from my credit report]

Thats not strictly true. I have what would be described as poor credit including a ccj and they have just increased my o/d by 1400 pounds without me even asking - they will not however let me have a credit card. They seem to be a law unto themselves.
Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!
    Another 3% shaved off 10/12/08
    ANOTHER 4 % June 09:beer:

I have seen this many times and also think it is ridiculous.

    Hi All
Just received my credit files from all 3 agencies.
Call credit showing 1 default 2004 nothing more
Equifax showing 2 clear accounts with loads of green zeros which are my bank account and BT. Show 3 defaults 2004-2005 one of which is same as call credit but differing in amounts by 1pound. One registered by finance company other showing Aktiv capital.
Only visible search on Equifax is Natwest for my current account.
Also shows 'hidden searches' only visible to me not lenders from debt collectors on numerous occasions, sometimes 3twice a day.
Looking for best way to improve my rating both with my own bank and indeed generally.
Have two fully paid up Provident accounts but was saddened to learn that they are not shown despite the HIGH interest rate
