Can you negotiate a rent?

With a lettings company? Simple question, requires a simple answer.

Most equivalents are at very similar rate, and I don't know how long any of tehm have been up for rent.0

I would say it all depends on the market where you are requesting the rent.
If they are gagging for tenants they'll reduce the rent (after talking to LL) or try at least, if they are teeming with few rentals and lots of tenants they'll be asking high prices, creaming the best tenants (those who pay their extortionate charges without question, who have no problem with the rental price and don't care that the cooker is broken and the boiler is about to explode etc) in my experience the rent price isn't the main issue for most tenancies.
If ANYTHING requires changing/fixing/repairing etc ensure it's on PAPER with penalty clauses if you can swing it before moving in.0 -
Yes, for mine reduced by £75. Couldnt afford the rent and told LL would have to move to somewhere smaller, and he offered to reduce it for the year to keep us on and not have to find new tennants.£2 Savers club £0/£150

Of course you can and if you really like the proerty as well and it is within your price range to buy it, but you don't have good credit or need some time to save up a deposit, you can even ask the landlord to buy it on a rent to own basis where you rent it now and buy it in say 2-3 years time.0

I'm a landlord, and pretty much every tenant I've ever had has negotiated on the rent. I've reduced it accordingly to those that seemed genuine, and I got the impression they were long term tenants0
