Is your BT Broadband running slow?

Hi community, I just thought I'd share some findings and tests ive been doingover the past two years regarding the BT homehub range, from BT Internet/broadband
If you do a speed test (www.speedtest.net) with your BT home hub and its slower then what the router is showing your line can do (found in 192.168.1.254) then id like to say you probably have a faulty router, but its worse then that, its the home hub (every single revision made)
I have been with BT since the release of the huge white homehub / update and the past two weeks I've been using the new black version, and the findings i'd like to share with you all are very disappointing.
In the two areas I have lived at....
Area one, I was promised 8mbits download, the home hub reported
a download speed of 8mbits. using downloads from microsoft.com,
torrents, and speed tests using www.speedtest.net that home hub
at house A made a maximum speed of 6mbits and a download
speed of 620KBS, (the test were fair and I ran them twice a day
every day...
when using my secondary router (DLINK G6O4T)
the results were very different, my speedtest hit 8mbits and my download
speed hit approx 825kbs
I contacted BT so many times regarding this and in total I received 3 routers from them, each router was a different model, different firmware, and they even told me I should have a brand new line fitted, (and they did this for me, ((free of charge)), twice... yes twice, ( I never told them I had a different router that actually hit 8mbits and why should I lol)
In area two where I am living now very similar results,
I was promised 512kbps (im actually getting 6000kpbs
speed tests with the 3 BThome hubs are hitting 4800kbps
and my downloads are getting about 400kbs
with the (DLINK G6O4T) I am getting a speed test of 5900kbs
and a download rate of approx 610
My friends are all experiencing very similar things with the bt home hubs,
and they are getting the same results and rates with different routers other then BT
I cant actually believe that the queens seal of approval is on the new hub
Don't get me wrong the service with BT downloading on the
other router is fantastic, the line is perfect, quiet test is amazing on the line,
and I never drop playing games and torrents e.t.c are flying down all the time.
The BT home hubs all suffer with lag, playing games I drop a lot, probably get a ping ranging from 100/200 and on the other router 66/75 (constant)
at random they sometimes they just reset themselves for no resean,.
They are a complete shambles.
I now use 2 routers, the dlink for internet wand the homehub for the homehubphone
(only for making phone calls lol)
I hope these findings solve peoples problems or queries or annoyances they might
have with their homehub. Its probably not your service or BT thats the problem, Its the B router, I know its not money saving, but its time saving!

There are no doubt better routers around than the Hub, but whatever you use, the figures reported by a speed test will always be lower than the sync speed of the router/hub, it doesnt mean there is necessarily a fault.0 -
ok so there is a problem with the BT hubs apart from asking them for another one or a new line, what else can we do? Over the last couple of weeks my speed has been shocking to say the least.0

if you have a friend who has a spare router to replace the bt hub,
you can test to see if the internets quicker using that. chances are
it will be a lot more faster and stable!
Or you could try ebay and pick up another router pretty
cheap for like £20.
Warning thou when you do this; if you use the bt homehub phone,
it will no longer work on the new router.
plus you need to configure the new router with your bt login info,

also important if your using torrents,ftp, game servers
make sure you have port forwarding set up. if anyone

Just for your information the hub isnt technically free, for the amount
the standard consumers have to pay X the lenght of the contract,
=one super hella stable and fast router should be the normal..
If one takes option 1 thats even worse!
