I'd still try buying a license first and grovelling..it's got to be worth a chance?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. No leeway? The judge has discretion to provide different types of penalties based on the circumstances. Based on the circumstances, he will just get fined. Criminal record? I would like to see a case on that.
Errr. Where do you think the magistrates will sit? Answer: A criminal court.
What do you think fines are for? Criminal offences!0 -
maybe i got lost with all the posts - when did the OP say that?
1st post from the OPI am being taken to court for using a TV for a month without licence (I only used it for a week before the inspector came, not knowing I was not covered).I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks for all of your posts, now it seems clear I can get a criminal record I have no option but to plea not guilty, if I plea guilty I might get a smaller fine but I am guaranteed a criminal record. I think my best option is to try and get them to stop the drop the case, paying for a licnece might help I don't know.
I also have a serious complaint to make against the inspector, perhaps if I agreed not to make this it could help? Or do you think this would just look like some kind of threat from me and make them more determined to fight on0 -
Please explain how you feel pleading not guilty to an admitted offence is actually going to help here?
Buy a license, grovel and there is the possibility that you'll get away with it. What exactly is your defence here going to be?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If I plea guilty I will not actually be telling the truth! I am being accused of using a TV without a licence for one month, which I can truthfully say I have not done. I don't know if I can plea guilty for using it for one week when I am not being charged for that0 -

I think in this situation you would be well advised to get some proper advice from a decent solicitor in order to assess the situation.0 -

Ok, you try that then, I'm sure the magistrates will really appreciate you being so interesting as to raise a not guilty plea whilst admitting another offence.
