I have just spoken to Lidl CS and they inform me that Lidl are NOT accepting credit cards, just cash,Visa, electron cards, they think people are getting mixed up with Aldi who appear to be taking credit cards.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0

Bought the enormous plasma from Aldi recently, for £1000. They got one in specially for me, from another branch, took a lot of trouble. Imagine my horror, on wheeling said TV to checkout, to be informed that they didn't take credit cards. Excuse me, which century is this?
Luckily the switch one was acceptable, but it threw the whole household budget into disarray. Highly amusing to the waiting queue, of course, me red faced and on the point of fainting at the thought of a £1000 black hole. It just didn't occur to me that credit cards wouldn't be accepted. Even John Lewis have dragged themselves into the 21st century, finally. Just goes to show, always check before commitment.0 -

meadowcat wrote:Hope this applies to Northern Ireland also. I haven't even been able to use my Halifax debit card in Lidl since it became a Visa debit card. Well, I tried it once and was left red-faced when the till didn't accept it. I had to leave my shopping and go to the hole-in-the-wall to get cash to pay for it. It still only says Switch and Solo, so I never tried again.
This happened to me in Coleraine, I was mortified when it came up as refused but the girl on the till calmly called over a supervisor who turned a key which allowed her to input the card no manually it went through no problems then. It seems to be a problem with the new Halifax cards as it has happened to my sister in law as well.
Doesnt do much for your street cred thoughNice to save.0 -

Lidl in Drum St, Edinburgh definitely ARE taking credit cards - confirmed with the checkout operator on Monday. The leaflet for 21 November also has the "we now accept credit & debit cards" notice on the back page. It shows the logos for Solo, Visa, Visa Electron, Mastercard, Maestro and Delta cards "making payment easier". There's a blue box at the bottom of the notice with the code "LIV" for Livingston - so possibly this is restricted to the shops which show the Livingston contact address on their receipt.0 -
This must be in Scotland only, as our local Lidl(s) still hold to "we have NEVER and Do Not take credit cards "

I tried to pay with a credit card in Lidl a couple of weeks ago and was refused.
If they do take credit cards in some places then don't think it is a good thing as they will most probably put the prices up to compensate. It costs them hundreds to take credit cards and Amex costs them even more so even if some do take cards then they most probably won't take Amex.
For the branches that people have found to now be taking credit cards, see if the prices go up now or in a few weeks.0 -

I bit the bullet and tried my Halifax Debit card at Lidl. I asked the girl on the till if they took that card and she said yes. When she tried it, it said "declined" and I blanched. But she said no, it was ok, and did something with her buttons and it worked fine.
Thanks to everyone.0 -
