It depends which one your DVD drive is compatible with.

As far as I know, DVD-R are more widely compatible.

It almost doesn't matter with most newer DVD players / drives, but check with whatever hardware you're likely to use to read the final product. The most modern thing I can think of that was picky about the format is the xbox original.

dvd-r was the first recording format released and compatible with about 93% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs
dvd+r is compatible with about 83% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs
and there about the same sieze too 4.37GB
the problem starts with dvd-r DL dvd+r DL there again about the same sieze7.95GB put not all player can play them right .
the best one to us is dvd ram for recording put theres only a hand full of player that will play them apart from computer ones and there not used much
your best bet is DVD-R /DVD+R and dvd+r dl for players and there easy to get
    cheap

there one more problem you mite get and thats different brands will play different put you will have to find which one works best on your player because we cannot say which one is best for want player because we do not know
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff

Some brands are better than others, but the picture quality will be the same. They'll either work or they won't. Cheaper inferior quality disks might not burn properly, or stop working after a while.

Verbatim disks have always performed well for me.

I don't think it's really an issue any more. When I first started burning my own DVDs there were some players that played one kind of disc but not another, but these days most DVD players will play any kind of disc, provided of course that the content is in the right format.

there mite be a very little issue with the player put there is still the issue with the burner/recorder,you still need the right disc's for that, for them to play right.
you have to rememder there is different dyes for the disc and you need to right ones for the burner to burn right
look there lotts of dyes for verbatin from MCC 03RG20 to RITEK.R03 and not all are good, thats why we say try different brand and find the one that work right for your burner and player because it can be hit and miss still ,more so for the burner/recorder than player

    "as in different picture quality?"
it's more to do with how they burn (wrights the info on the disc and how well it hold the info)some can be very good and some are very naff put it's really depends on your optical drive that makes the disc to which one's it likes
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff

Dvdr would be your best bet for most compatibile.

Just about every dvd player in the last couple of years will read em , and + though ram is a different fish entrirely.

Quality dyes are what matters though , and ritek bulk imo meets that but theres some dodgy geezers that claim they are when they are not , should be a good purple on the underside as long as they are clinically clean from a good source.

121cdr or svp on google. You can get tasters , you never now what will work if its only for one specific player you might need to test a few...or buy a newer player. You might have problems if your out of spec at the encode , make sure your end result is within the spec ie mpeg pal or doubtfullly ntsc seeing as how its uk forum.

Bear in mind though even with the best media possible if the player lens is rubbish , or attuned to not play recordable media , its wont matter what you put in it.

Keep the dvd standard and click the compatible with standaolone players if the option is there in the dvd making software. And just some times some dont use close disk , ie no more writing and leave them open , which also will stop most players from reading them....doubtful but it still happens.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Your DVD Burner (Drive) may say what it is compatible with on the front if you look carefully.
