Woolies' "half price" offers are a joke. I believe they have one store in the country where these things are sold at extortionatly high prices in order to validate the "half price" claim. Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.0

Woolworths are the only shop where you can buy cds, DVDs gifts etc in our local town (apart from second hand ones from Charity shops!)- and they are frequently cheaper than the out of town Sainsburys and Morrisons. Woolworths have been part of the high street for years and are moving with the times to keep up with the Supermarkets.
I used to work for a retail company who used "Market town pricing". They charged a higher price that cynically took advantage of the local population being unable to get the goods cheaper elsewhere without travelling at cost or ordering mail order and paying a delivery charge.
At least with the Internet, people have a choice now and can use sites like this to seek out the best deal.Wealthsaving - a way of life?0 -

I think that practice is now against the law. The original selling price must of been in effect at the particular store within a certain time frame. Something like 28 days in the last 6 months.
However, note it's not the original selling price but the RRP price they quote. Many shops never sell at full RRP, yet quote it to make the saving look bigger than it really is. Direct-Golf always do that in their catalogue. So in a sale they might say £120 saving over the RRP, yet in reality it's only £20 saving over the normal in-shop price they were selling at.
Remember BBC Watchdog covered a TV bidding channel that overpriced the guide price in tv auctions to make savings look bigger than they really were. The TV channel claimed they were just going on the manufacturer's RRP price. Pretty sure TS/OFT looked into them and they ended up closing. Wonder why shops are still allowed to get away with it though?0
