Nokia 1680
've just bought a nokia 1680 moby and I'm happy with it as a phone except for one thing - how on earth do I transfer photo's from it to my PC?
I know there is a USB data cable port but I dont' know how to find out what size/type it takes. The nokia website is no help saying there isn't a compatable USB data cable for that model - which seems daft. Why put in a data port if no cable fits it!
Dont' want to get ripped off on ebay or anywhere buying something that doesn't fit.

Hi,
I have checked out a couple of Mobile forum's and it dosn't look like it is possible to tranfer files by cable from the phone to the computer on the 1680. Of course I might be wrong. A few people have purchased cables and then been unable to get it to connect to the PC. Could you upload them via WAP and then download the pictures from the web?I'm an Ogre0 -
The Nokia 1680 has no cable available in the UK. The phone is a "special" sold usually as a PAYG phone, ie Tesco. The supplier wants to make money out of you having to use its internet connectivity to download photos. Without the ability to download by cable the camera feature is just about useless!
This phone is really a bit of a con so don't buy!
By the way, the cables are available on ebay from the States or Hong Kong and come with a driver disk but I dont know if they work with it.0 -
Further info on this!
I have contacted US supplier of cables for 1680, he says:-
Hi John,
Please confirm that your UK version of the Nokia 1680 looks
like this ...
http://www.nokiausa.com/link?cid=PLAIN_TEXT_1141630
(It does)
If
its the same phone, then the cable will work. Yes, even in the US, Nokia
claims that the port is for service use only, so that the service providers
can make money on file transfers through their network. That port can
actually be used for file transfers via this data cable. Let us know if
you need additional information, and we look forward to receiving your
order.
Sincerely,
Michael

I have ordered one today and will post comment as soon as received and tested!

John,
Would you post contact details for the US supplier please.
I've got the same problem, and can't find anything on e-bay.
I've read that it may be a CA-45 cable but not really sure.

My situation was that my wife was given a new phone at christmas because her's was knackered. It was a N1680 Classic from Tesco, unlocked. To keep her nubmer, we put the old O2 sim card in. O2 can't set it up for MM messageing on PAYG.

but
I can now retrieve pictures from Nokia 1680 Classic to PC !!!:j
Using this cable from eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-DATA-CABLE-for-NOKIA-1200-1680-CLASSIC-2630-2760_W0QQitemZ380098249499QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccesories_MobilePhoneDataCables_JN?hash=item380098249499&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1300%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
or search for [Data Cable Nokia 1680]
The cable came with a driver disc, the driver is: "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port", also available from http://www.prolific.com.tw .
So far I've tried it with Nokia PC suite (download from Nokia site) on a PC running Vista, you have to tell it that the phone is on serial port COM 5 !! Some functions of the Nokia program aren't compatible, but I've accessed the photos and added some ringtones, which is good enough.
I've also tried it on a PC running XP with MobiMB (Mobile Media Browser) which I downloaded, and that is far more user friendly.

I think the cable for this phone is Nokia DKE-2
I've ordered one so i'll try it.0 -
I have a Nokia 1680 and would love to hear update on the data cable as I'm thinking of getting one. However, my intention is to print out text messages.
It would be great if you could advice of the possibility...
Many thanks.0 -
It seems that the required cable is the same as for the Nokia 2630. See e-bay :
Item number:140346077541 for example.
Then, using Nokia's free PC suite, it should be possible to see the inbox contents, so text could then be copied & pasted as required.
