I don't know about tuna, but what i would like to say is that a penny saved is a penny towards something else....we have all asked questions at sometime all another that would only save a small amount. This is what 'oldstyle' is all about....make do and mend and make food stretch as far as we can. This is good for the enviroment and good for our pockets.
I have found that the oldstyle board is one of the friendliest boards on this website and it's a board where anyone can post and NOT be laughed at or poked fun at...lets keep it that way...we certainly don't want people to be afraid to ask a question!
Once again i would like to thank all you oldstylers that have helped me and been so kind to me when i have asked questions.0 -

I thanked him because he gave me a laugh.
I didn't take it in a particularly mean way, but I have a strange sense of humour, maybe.:beer:0 -
As caravan said divide it into cubes drain and freeze, no problem with it at all, then after doing that to sturll for practice do the same to your cat's tuna, no problem. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Oh, I see his/her posts in other threads - s/he is just being abrasive, I can see that, now.:beer:0 -
Its got to be the value tuna or the fridge.
I buy Tesco tuna steak for the family and accidentally left half a tin in a Tupperware container in the fridge for a week and it was fine.
I don’t think value tuna should go off in 2 days.
How old is the fridge?
THe fridge is 10 years old now I guess, it was new when I moved into my house. I don;t want to buy a new one yet as we hope to move and have room for one of those big ones. Usually stuff keeps in it for ages - a cooked chicken will happily last up to a week - so I think it is the tuna. I'm going to try freezing it in cubes and see how that goes with her. Otehrwise it will have to be the small tins but they are much more expensive than the Value tuna. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

skintchick - I would say it's worth feeding half a can and then freezing the other half and seeing if your kitty likes it when defrosted? It may be a bit more watery than usual, but squeeze out any excess water quickly and should be fine.
Ignore any hecklers - some folk on here are bored and look for posts to comment on for the sake of it.MFW #185

Hiya,
I buy tuna in brine for me, but sometimes buy in oil for the cat, as I read somewhere that the oil is good for their coats (I do drain the excess off though). Don't know if this is true, but my 'old lady' of at least 12 has lovely soft fur!
In brine it keeps about 3 days in my fridge, but in oil it seems to keep longer (well so far up to 4 days - but she's eat a tin a day if I let her - LOL!).
I understand what you mean about treating our pets - we have value everything - the only non-supermarket-branded stuff I buy is catfood! I figure we have a choice, but they don't, and she brings me so much pleasure that I don't care!
Good luck!

No one bothered to answer the question. The answer is YES you can safely freeze tuna from a can. Do it straight away after opening the can and taking what is wanted. Freeze it in a plastic bag or container.
See if you or the cat can tell the difference. If you like you can go to the goldseal.ca/faq webpage to check this.

Answered after nearly 2 years! Things move fast on MSE sometimes.
I hope that argument does not start again.0 -
Hi all
I am thinking of making my familiy's packed lunch sarnies etc up on a Sunday to save me time on week nights.
If I did, say a wrap or a bread sarnie with tuna and sweetcorn, do you think it would freeze ok?
I have 2 young children and frightened about food poisoning etc. DH would be ok though
Has anyone done this and succeeded?
