My friends child didnt speak until he was 5, he was their first child and always had everything he needed so had no need to speak.
His parents were worried sick, but it turned out ok - hope it's the same in your case.

I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. I'm sure his parents are aware of it already, and if they're not worried, neither should you be. I think most parents will have an inking if something isn't quite right. Definitely, not worth a family falling out over!
I always thought my nephew was autistic. He never spoke but everytime he saw me, he would scream. Other things he did pointed to autism too. I mentioned it to my sister and my mum, but not to my brother or his wife, as I thought they would have been offended. But by the time he was 3, he was diagnosed as being autistic. My brother did say I should just have said something. It wouldn't have made any difference though, as he still got diagnosed pretty early.0 -
I do hope the dear litle soul is 'hearing' "good" English! So few people seem to be able to speak their mother tongue very well any more, it's no wonder if the younger generation 'mislearn' how to speak.
I wish we would introduce DICTION and ARTICULATION into the curriculum and keep it on the agenda until we have reverted to sounding like a nation with a modicum of education instead of a nation of chavs. I hope the dear little soul has the chance to hear enough that when he chooses to speak he then won't need 'therapy' to correct what has been absorbed.:rotfl: Good Luck anyway, sure it'll all be fine.:o0 -
My middle son hardly said a word till he was nearly 4. He clearly understood as he could follow instructions and stuff, but he would just do things like point at the juice when he wanted a drink rather than ask for a drink. Then all of a sudden he started talking in full sentences, and he's never shut up since!
Do the parents talk to the child? My eldest and my baby are both early talkers, but I've talked to all three all the time. Usually just about what I'm doing, or we go and see what's out the window, or I'll tell them the names of items in books or on TV etc.
The youngest is nearly 16 months and she's picking up things I said. Yesterday I asked if she liked the biscuit she had just eaten and she said "like biscuit". If you put the child in situations like that, then she might be more inclined to speak.
Still don't know why my middle one took so long to talk though as they were all treat the same. Here I go again on my own....0
