How to view a house?

I appreciate your point of view. In this case it's not me that wants to buy the house - I want to look and then I'll make up my mind (I would have more idea if they'd put photos up but nevermind). And it is true that they might not really want to sell, however they do have it on the market which gives me a small indication.

I completely agree it should work both ways. My point is that I'm not expecting a viewing at midnight, if I go to work really early (compared to what I normally do) I can leave in time to get there for 5 (which is only half an hour after they stop viewings). I don't think I'm being unreasonable in expecting this, and it's hardly super convenient for me.

As an aside my local currys and comet both stay open until 8pm and are open on weekends so it's still extremely easy for me to be able to get there to buy a tv despite having a full time job. Also my local audi dealer stays open until 6 each night and is open saturday mornings. So again it would be easy for me to get there at a time to fit around my work.
If those times arent convenient, and you want the house that badly, then you should make it convenient.

I'm just failing to see HOW I can make it convenient (any suggestions I'll gladly take on board).

This reminds me of buying our first house, it was 1994 so well into the last big crash. My uncle lived across the road from an empty house so called us as soon the for sale sign went up. I called the EA (about 5.30pm) and they EA met DH and I at the property at 7.30pm when DH got home from work. The EA office closed at 6pm so the EA took his own time in the evening to show us the property.

Fast forward to 2006 and trying to get a viewing of an empty property (not a repo) was murder. Twice the EA didn't show at all. Twice they brought the wrong keys and when we finally did get in they said we'd need to be quick because they had another viewing in 10 mins and they didn't bring a key to get into the conservatory from the house, we could only see it via the lounge. Several properties had vendors with strict viewing times only and even though the EA had offered to do viewings for them, they still had to stick to the vendors times. I'm not defending the EA at all but it could be the vendor causing a problem.

I think a return to the way EA's worked in 1994 could soon be on the cards and vendors that have been spoilt in the last few years by selling (for more than the last house in the street) in a matter of hours (or at the most, days) with little more than a glance through the window are in for a harse reality check.

Try to get a viewing on a different property with the same EA, if the response is the same then you know who is causing the problem.
