Late payment - sooo angry with myself

in Credit cards
Hi all (thanks for taking the time to read this)
Wonder if you could help clarify things for me?
I stupidly lost track of the days this month (no excuse I know) and therefore made a payment to my credit card which I subsequently worked out would hit the account 2 days later than the date the payment was required by.
Immediately on realising this I called the credit card company to explain that although i had made the payment, I had muddled my dates and therefore it wouldn't reach the account until 2 days later. They were fine with this as I had called to explain, and said that they would refund the late payment fee (which wasn't my main concern as it was my fault it was late). I said my concern was that this would appear on my credit file (which has so far been well maintained and updated - i.e closing settled accounts, ensuring on electoral roll etc etc). They said it wouldn't as it was only late by 2 days and not a default, but I'm not entirely convinced.
Can anyone help? I'm just so annoyed with myself  that all my hard work and keeping a good credit file may now have gone out the window....and yes, I have set up a direct debit from now on!
Any advice would be gratefully received with thanks
Kind Regards
Em

Well the worst that will happen is that the credit file will show you made the payment 2 days late I think - good that you cottoned on so quickly - I doubt you can get them to do anything about it (credit reference agencies being answerable to no-one) but surely a year of on-time payments will make up for one two days late?
Banks know everyone makes mistakes - what is worrying is a pattern i.e. if you were doing this all the time it might show money-problems.0 -
Don't worry about it. They promised to refund you the late fee so I would assume that they won't put a late payment marker on your credit files.0

Thanks for the replies - I'd love to believe that they won't register the late payment, but sometime you get so many conflicting answers from the same company that it's diffcult to know what the truth is!
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Thanks for the replies guys! :beer:I've started so I'll finish (hopefully one day!):o

At the end of the day a single late payment on your credit file wouldn't do too much harm. I think the only thing you can do is wait and then check it to see whether its been marked or not. I would think that the fact they are refunding the fee would mean you should be ok.0

Thanks latecomer.
Does anyone have any idea how long it would take to show up on the credit file if it has been registered?

Which card company is involved?People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0

I agree with latecomer, a single late payment on your Credit File should not have any adverse affects for you.
Even Capital One allow for a late payment as part of their rather strict criteria defining the "excellent credit rating" required for their Platinum Card.0 -
NickX - I really hope so - thanks for the background info

Because your next statement date is generally 2-3 days (but could be more) after your last statement's payment due date on an 'up to 56 day' interest free arrangement, I suspect a '2 day late payment' won't be reported.
If you want to check your report to confirm though, I'd wait 8 weeks or so before sending for it.0 -
Thanks YorkshireBoy, it helps to have an example to be able to follow. I'll give it a couple of months as suggested before requesting a copy of my file.
