Does anyone else suffer from this problem? I have had countless pairs of jeans over the years, I think all of which have ended up in the bin because a hole appears between the legs after about 6 months. 6 months! I thought jeans were supposed to last for ages!
It's always in the same place, somwhere between the croutch (however you spell that) and the bum. Is it just me? Am I taking huge strides or something?
Anyway, this really annoys me because the jeans are usually still 95% pristine or there abouts, and I have to throw the whole lot away. I now have 3 pairs with the same problem - and it seems to happen whether they are cheap or expensive.
Has anyone got some advice on how to mend them in future? Although I have to say I'm sceptical that I could manage it. What I need is a kind of cobblers for clothes!...I know, that's a taylor, but you know what I mean, one of those key-cutting places in the high street where I could drop em off and collect them an hour later or something.
Well, maybe next time I buy a pair I might just sew a patch into the inside as a pre-emptive strike!

Incoming personal question...
Do you have flabby inner thighs?
If so, you'll always wear your jeans at the 'crotch' due all the fabric rubbing together when u walk.0 -
My OH has this problem with trousers. I find the only ones of his that don't end up split around the crotch bit are the loose-fitting ones, or ones made of stretchy material..
I haven't yet found a way of repairing them very effectively, but patching is better than just sewing the seams up again.0 -
It's funny you should post this - I've had a similar problem with my jeans too - but it's in the bum cheek crease area rather than the crotch ! The same thing happened to my linen trousers.0

I have this problem too, regardless of how tight fitting the jeans are. I do have large legs and I put the problem down to this until I remembered that it used to happen when I was a lot slimmer as well. I always wear my boots on the ankle as well where they rub together (and I don't have big ankles)0

I have this problem too, but it's odd, it only happens with Primark jeans, or Levis, and never with Tescos Cherokee ones. I guess it's got something to do with the cut. Do you always buy the same brand / style?
Luckily, my step mum is a good seamstress, I have some lovely "jeanskirts" from the Levis (too expensive to throw away!!)0 -
Are you wearing the correct size? not being rude but my mum is of a certain age, she refuses to believe she is in fact larger than she is, just because the button does up does not mean they fit! Sorry a bit of rambling towards my mum there but check your size (including the dress sizes proportionate to your waist measurement, your hip measurment and your thighs) you may need to go up a size and invest in a belt if your derriere is not in proportion to your waist.
Do you buy your jeans from the same shops?0 -
my trousers are deffo the right size - and being the boyfriend type jeans and baggy linen trousers they're not even tight around the 'worn' area !0

My husband has this problem and he is a wee skinny thing. We are planning to stick an iron-on patch onto the problem area. Let's see how long this lasts0

Thanks for the replies,
As a matter of fact I'm a skinny git (and a man, incidentally! Although I find it interesting everyone presumed I was a women!) but it is possible that I'm buying jeans too big, but I doubt it.
I've had it happen to all kinds of jeans, some are £40 quid ones (usually bought for me or in an online sale at M&M for example...quicksilver, lee, that sort of thing) others are £10 from ASDA/matalan etc. I figure if they last only a few months regardless, I might as well buy cheap'uns.
I think any patching now would just look silly, so I might stick to my original thought and patch 'em as soon as I buy 'em with an iron-on!0
