I'd rather go somewhere I know and get an honest MOT appraisal, even for a few extra pounds.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Just pointing out the deal, i normally do it at a local garage who i've been going to years and is trust worthy.0

Anyone who does discount on MOTs is only doing it to get customers through their door to fail them! I can guess that half of the extra cars MOT'd at these centres will be failed for brakes/shocks or exhausts...all of which they sell at Nationwide coincidentally

I agree, if it was logistically possible, I would want a law that prevented the garage carrying out the MOT test being able to do any of the work for cars that fail. There is too much of an incentive to fail it on something to get some extra business from it.
Really, there should be indepedent MOT testing stations that do nothing other than put vehicles through the test and issue pass & fail certificates.0 -
We used to have a guy locally called 'Mr MOT'! He only did the MOT, honestly and openly, allowed you to watch him do the MOT and showed you as he went what he'd fail/advise, and he used to charge £20 per MOT! Never did more than change bulbs if they were out, and let you take it to another garage to fix and then return for retest.
Went out of business thoughguess being honest doesnt pay.

Well i recently used one of their online vouchers (33% off an mot) at my local Nationwide Autocentre and they didnt fail my car, all they had to do was top up the oil. I find them quite reliable actually, and more often than not they have done some little jobs for me for free, which other places would have charged for.(such as diagnostics etc)0 -

Completely agree!
A garage near us is offering MOT's for £25 at the moment, we know 3 people who have used it so far and all have come out as a failed MOT, one needing a new set of brakes pads, although only changed on it's last service.
This alone shows what you state to be, fairly correct.
I know someone who used a National Autocentre, and made a huge mess of the job and fitted new parts that were not passed through the customer to be agreed, they went back to find a huge bill for repairs, which wasn't paid afetr Trading Standards became involved!0 -
