Cuthbert - most hog roast caterers charge extra for salads. I have found one (its a farmer) who charges £1.50 for 3 salads.

£3.75 per head for salad seems a bit high - I wonder what the salads consist of?
  • Some more advice please.

It has come down to 3 quotes.

The 1st is a national company, and I am guessing they then employ someone local, the quote is the cheapest....... but my gut is telling me that I would be better off with a local person.

The 2nd is very local (just around the corner actually!) competitive for the hog, however, the quote for salads is £3.75 per person

The 3rd is also local, and has the best quote.
We want jacket pots and they are £1.50 per person.

The question I have is,do I need to cater for 100% of the people, or just 70-80% like if having a buffet.
The hog is the only food we are having.

    Thanks guys for your advice.

  • my uncle had a hog roast for his birthday and it was fantastic, he managed to get a local farmer to supplie everything and got a friend to cook everything and put them on bain-maries to keep warm. Everyone cleared up after themselves and went down really well! If your after a cheaper hog roast than the companies are offering - try a local farmer!

My advice would be to cater for 90 -100% on the meat (as you can't just pop another one on!) and 75% on everything else.

I used to work in the hospitality / catering industry, and never used to cater for 100% on buffets.

And if you are having cobs etc, cater for 100% on them. Bread isn't that expensive, and quite good at filling people up!
