NHBC Claim - Surveyor coming tomorrow

Options
I' be grateful for any advice.

I am meeting an NHBC Surveyor tomorrow on behalf of my one of my clients.

Basically, quite a few roof tiles have fallen off the roof on a couple of occasions (it's a rented property that I manage). The roofer I use has basically said they were poorly fitted when it was built hence them falling off and has given me a variety of reasons as to why the workmanship is poor. I actually own a house myself on the same estate and none of mine have fallen off but mine could have been done by a different contractor.

My roofer is meeting me at the property tomorrow at the same time as the NHBC guy but they don't know this but I have been told that the original building contractor might be attending as well as the NHBC assessor.

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect, how long it is likely to take to get a response from NHBC, is the surveyor likely to go up onto the roof to take a close look/should he go on the roof?

I might be being negative but I suspect they will say, "there's nowt wrong with it, end of claim" so I want to be prepared hence why I have my roofer coming as he did the repairs and and can state his findings to them.

The property is just inside the NHBC i.e it is nearly 10 years old.

Many thanks for any help

Unless it is a structural problem, we have found they just do not want to know this far on, so I would not hold out much hope of a good outcome.

It's unlikely he will go on the roof, unless you have scaffolding in place.
Having an "expert" there may help.

He may well indicate his findings on the day, but you should get a written response within 2-3 weeks.

I involved the NHBC on a house claim - they are absolutely useless ! Their so called guarantees are as useful as a chocolate teapot - which at least you can eat.

They are funded by the house builders and that is where their loyalties lie !

Thanks for the comments. I thought I would update on what happened.

Well, I must have struck lucky - the claim has already been authorised in writing, they will pay for the cost of the work which involves removing all the roof tiles on certain parts of the roof front and back, and then affixing them correctly. There is an excess but as I have nominated to use my own contractor I can get the work done for the amount they are paying out and I trust the contractor I use to do it properly and he was the one to identify the problem in the first place. It helped having him there as I was asked lots and lots of questions and perhaps it helped back up the authenticity of my claim. :T :T
