Work has bought me a new laptop and I'm well chuffed.
Yet I've been told that as the printer I have at home is 'old' the current leads for the printer will not fit in the laptop.
So my question is... any leads out there that has a 'new' end that will fit in my laptop and an 'old' end that will fit in my printer. I know my terminology very high tech ! It's just my printer is great, does all I want, I just don't want to buy a branny.

New multifuction printer £32.84 including the vat.£10 a day - Sept 08 £245/£3000 -
Depends how old the printer is - quite a lot have had both (old) parallel and (new) USB connections fitted for several years. Which model is your printer?0

Will the printer still be connected to a pc or old laptop, if it is you can just add it to your network and print to it through a wireless connection.0

No network at home.
My printer is a HP Laserjet 1100a and it does not have a USB type connection. its the old parallel, 'prongy', connection.
trcooke... thank you so much as your link seems to be the answer for me.
I'm very grateful for all your replies.0 -
Quite a bit cheaper here, if you can stand the wait from Hong Kong

or this one too, which has more in the way of reviews, specifically confirmation of it working in Vista, although I don't see why the other one wouldn't work.

Ah, now be careful when buying a cable for the HP1100. I have this exact same printer and even though it is a parallel connector it is a funny one that's smaller than the standard one I posted a link to.
Update: Ok, you'll need one of these too:

Could only find it on an american site but at least you know what you're after.
I'll have a scout around and see if I can find the right one for you. Hold fire on that purchase just for a bit.0 -
trcooke.....it's very kind of you to go to all this trouble
Will hang fire on the purchase.0 -
No problem. I know this printer very well as I used to fix them for Natwest for my job a few years back.
I'm afraid I was unable to find the cable to do the job you're after. I can only find a gender changer that converts the mini centronics to the standard centronics and then the cable i mentioned before that'll convert the standard centronics to USB. It's a bit messy but it'll work.0
