O2 Network

Hi,

I'm on O2 pay monthly with the web bolt on which gives me unlimited/(fair usage!) web browsing.

When I start up my phone I can connect to the O2 network or the 3g O2 network and there is a setting where I can connect to whichever is the strongest and the phone switches between the two by itself.

My question is that if I use the 3g network for web browsing is this covered by the web bolt?

I emailed O2 and they have told me that if I connect using gprs then I will not be charged.
I then asked if I connect using the 3g network would I be charged – still waiting to here back from them (17 days now).

As far as I can tell the internet settings for both types are identical, just that one is so much faster than the other.

Just wondered how other O2 customers with the web bolt on connect to O2?

Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

As has been stated above you can use 3G phones with the web bolt ons like any other, however you can't use your 3G phone like a modem though as that breaches the conditions.

The 3G and 2G networks are practically identical, they just operate slightly differently and at different rates. There is no billing difference between the two sets.

O2 do operate two access points - WAP and Mobile. WAP is what should be used to send and collect MMS messages for free (ie without being charged data) and when I misconfigured my device a couple of years ago and used it I ended up getting charged (50p or so after I used the free 1Mb, and it was my fault). Both of these are covered by the Web bolt on.
