Orange 24month contract
Just last week i opened up a contract with Orange at CarPhone Warehouse. As per usual the sales assistants were pushy and quite persuasive, anyway in my naive state i ended up opening a 24month contract with them at £30 a month. However after going home and pondering over the idea I realised that it wasnt economical no matter how many minutes they were offering. I then went back to the store the next day to ask for a refund, only to be told they have a ZERO RETURNS policy in stores (whichn was not explained to me).
I am now stuck with this contract for 2years....surely there are consumer rights which have at least a 07-14 day grace period?
anyone please help!

I think as it is a service contract that you completed in person on CPW premises the cooling off period doesn't apply0

No, the 7 day period is due to distance selling regs, which don't apply in store... so sadly, CPW are right in what they're saying. On the up

wow....
this is a damn shame i tell ya.
well thank u all for ur help, looks like im stuck with it. However I must say that i feel like this is DAYLIGHT robbery, you shoud ALWAYS be allowed to change ur mind within a certain period....distance selling or not.
Thanks again tho.
ps....hypothetical question:
If when i took the phone back the next day and INSISTED i didnt want it, left it with them, cancelled my dd details could they really have done nething about it, considering i hadnt used the fone at all? Im only asking because this is what most are sayn i should have done but im not sure.0 -
It might be worth calling Orange and seeing what they have to say. I thought they used to have some kinds of returns policy on new contracts.0

2 years is a long time to be stuck in a phone contract. Anything can happen in that time. And I thought 18 months were bad.

Then you would be without a phone, but you would still be liable for the contract. And if you don't pay it then after a few weeks you would have your service cut off and then have the debt passed to a debt recovery agency.
They are under no legal obligation to provide a returns period (unless ordered via phone/internet etc and so covered by Distance Selling Regulations), but you have signed up to a legally binding contract.
It sucks, I know, but there's not really anything you can do.I accept no liability if you chose to rely on my advice.0
