Terminating existing contract
Can you advise me on the following? I wish to terminate an 18 month contract with Vodafone, which started 7 months ago (15/01/08). The reason being that my tariff is too high compared to other offers in the market:
Current line rental 36.17 + 7.50 for international passport pm.
I have been told that to transfer my number to T-Mobile and cancel my contract I will have to pay 380 pounds. Also, when I asked to downgrade my tariff to the lowest amount, I was told that they will only give one level down at 35 pounds pm.
Surely, I can just give them one months written notice and walk away? Is it because I want to keep my number that they have me over a barrel?
Can someone please advise me?

You're kidding, aren't you?
You write that you signed an 18 month contract and are 7 months into it and want to cease it because you have found something cheaper.
Webster's dictionary defines a contract as "a binding agreement between two or more persons or parties; especially : one legally enforceable"
Just what did you think you were signing when you took it out - probably with a new phone as well?
I look forward to reading the other replies from regulars!!0 -
To cancel the contract you will have to pay that £380, whether you want to keep your number or not. If you do what you mooted in giving them written notice and walking away, Vodafone has the right to take legal action to recover the cost of the remaining months of the contract.
My advice would be to lower your tariff, take this on the chin and see out the 18 months as best as you can, because you'll be paying the cost of the 18-month contract whether you use it or not.0 -

I only pop into this forum every now and again but every time I do I seem to see a post that has no comprehension of what a contract is, and how hard done by they are that they have to stick to something they agreed to.
I'll also bet the OP will remain on 1 post rather than explain his/her reasoning!0
