Cancelling Contract

Hi, when i was 17 i took out a mobile contract with O2, 18 month tariff with 75 minutes and 300 texts, and for this i am paying over £40 a month.
My contract runs out in September, and i am planning on using comparison websites to switch to another contract provider.
But i have no idea how to end my contract with O2! Have searched all over their website and found nothing about cancelling.

Any help much appreciated!!

You need to give them 30 days notice (ie 30 days before the end of the contract if you don't want to pay more). If you want to keep your number, you need to request a PAC. It does say in their contracts that you have to give notice in writing - I have always found a phone call to cancellation teams can come up with good results (there will be an o2 retentions thread in this forum that will give you an idea of what you can expect - sometimes much better, including discounts, than a new contract from elsewhere, with the same phones generally available).

surely the contract is not legally binding if they entered into it with you while you were only 17??

    £400 O/D Lloyds TSB
    £2650 Lloyds TSB Loan
    £5070 Black Horse Finance

Skint, but I have a plan.... an MSE Plan!!!
  • What ID did you give to get a contract? I gave my notice to o2 over the phone. I'd ask for a PAC, way easier than telling everyone your new number. As with other threads, if your looking at deals online (e.g cash back) watch out for redemptions as not everyone gets their money back.
  • I dont think i gave any ID. As my mum took out the contract in her name was i was 17, but then as soon as i turned 18 I switched it over in my name and had the direct debit.
What does the PAC do? never heard of them!!
Im not too bothered about cashback or anything (wouldnt mind a free wii or ps3 tho!! lol) but i just need something with a hell of a lot more mins n texts, im thinking of going to Orange n getting the new Sony Ericsson C90 for £30 a month and i think u get something like 700 mins and unlimited texts. cant quite remember now! lol

If you are happy with the service that you are getting from your current provider what you need to do is ring them up, tell them you want to leave and then you will be transfered to the retentions team who will try and offer you a better deal in order to keep you, if you quote that you can get for example 700 mins and unlimited texts for £30 they will either try a match the other or better it. As you are on one of their higher tariffs I think they wud be more willing to keep you. You might even get a top of the range phone and other free things, you wont no until you ask tho.
  • Orange online offer is 600mins and unlimited texts. T-mobile is 700mins and unlimited texts. Call and find out what the best deal you'll get is, as lincsdan86 said, your on a high tariff, so they'll want to keep you as a customer.

If you do decide to leave, ask for your PAC, its a 9 digit code which will let you transfer your mobile number to another network. You may need to give this to your new provider when you start the contract, as someone said some networks dont allow you to transfer your number over once the contracts started.
