Does anyone else have concerns about this bank?

No more or less than any other.
In fact I've "risked" another £500 in my savings account, on top of the two fixed deposits already held at KE, within the last 20 minutes. :D

My only concern so far is that their website doesn't seem to be the most reliable (see this thread regarding various log-in issues), which isn't great when your savings are managed purely online, but this isn't enough to have deterred me from just opening a savings account with them, given the interest rate and the fact that there's just as many positive as negative reports (if not more) about them on here.

A British Bank won't be allowed to "fail", as the powers that be will back them all regardless. Bradford & Bingley's internet saver pays 6.51% AER at present. I had an a/c with KE, and closed it a short time ago, because of logging in issues, and temporary missing interest. The constant negative press comment was also hard to ignore.
Last time I looked this account was only paying 6%, where does your 6.51% come from?? I want it!!!
    Change is here to stay

I noticed my interest was short last month and assumed we were working on different number of days in the calculation. Did they admit to temporary missing interest, and what reason did they give?

My interest wasn't "short" - It wasn't there!!! It eventually appeared in my a/c a few days late. It made me question the reliability of the KE systems, and combined with occasional logging in problems, I decided to call it a day, and moved over to B&B; who pay practically the same interest at the moment anyway. I appreciate that B&B aren't in great financial shape, but I do know that they won't be allowed to fail; which helps me sleep at night.

PS., Kaupthing acknowledged the "missing interest" problem; it was obviously some kind of technical glitch. I just don't like glitches when it concerns my money!
  • I've never had cause to complain about KE. Been with them 4 months now. I haven't had the log in problems others seem to be plagued by, my interest has been paid on the 1st of each month, without fail.
I don't worry about having my money with them. It's earning great interest, right up to the moment they fail :)

sorry to come in from the side on this thread but, do you have to deposit the £100 into KE during the signup process or do you wait until the account is open?

I opened my KE account online with £0 Deposit, then move £1 from my linked account to test the system, everything worked fine.
    Hope this helps.;)

    from the KE site
'Please note: We offer sole personal accounts only (i.e. not joint or business). Accounts are limited to one per person. The minimum initial deposit is £100'
just wondering, is this deposit during the sign up or after the account is started?
