To juice or not? Is a juicer worth it/easy to clean?

Thanks for everyones comments
Phew! I just don't know what to do now. To be perfectly honest, I don't really want or have room for a juicer in the kitchen but how I'm going to convince my daughter that perhaps it's not such a good idea is a problem. Someone has offered me one from Freecycle, but I haven't heard from them again so it looks like that option may have gone.
Will have to have another think. Pity I couldn't juice apples etc in my food processor lol.
THANK YOU ALL

I spent a fortune on a 'Jack lalane power juicer' a few years back ..... total waste of money .... hence it was soon sold on Ebay.
So much dismantling and washing, it really wasnt worth the effort.
I soooooo much prefer using my blender.A creative mess is better than tidy idleness

Wow .... it sounds like we have an identical cupboard:rotfl:you need about 10 oranges for a small glass of juices it not worth it...
I suppose after a few months it could keep your other kitchen appliance company in the back of the cupbord...like the george forman gill... bread maker ....sandwich toaster.....coffee maker ...blah... blahA creative mess is better than tidy idleness

I'm sure this is a stupid question, but I'm assuming you can't do fruit like apples in the blender because they are too hard?I spent a fortune on a 'Jack lalane power juicer' a few years back ..... total waste of money .... hence it was soon sold on Ebay.

Apples aren't too hard for blenders. I regularly blend apples in mine to make smoothies. All you do is core them out then cut them in half or quarters. It's not an all singing all dancing blender either the one I have with only an on switch :rotfl: http://www.kenwoodworld.com/uk/Products/Processing-Blending-Mixing/Blenders/White-Blender/ . I use it basically every day though so it's starting to die after basically 2 years of useI'm sure this is a stupid question, but I'm assuming you can't do fruit like apples in the blender because they are too hard?

As most people on here have already said - juicers are a waste of money (my mum got me mine0 and amazing thing from spain which cost an arm and a leg) and was used about 5 times - due to the immense amount of cleaning it took.
I do, however, have a kitchen aid gadget (not cheap but does everything including making great smoothies) . I also have an expensive food processor, but dont use that very often because the kitchen aid is so good and not to bulky for storage.Well Behaved women seldom make history

I have a Kitchenaid too, which I love. I wonder if you can get a juicer attachment.... ;-) Mind you, it would cost more than buying a separate juicer lol.mrs_motivated wrote: »As most people on here have already said - juicers are a waste of money (my mum got me mine0 and amazing thing from spain which cost an arm and a leg) and was used about 5 times - due to the immense amount of cleaning it took.

I have an old-fashioned glass fruit juicer that I have had for years.I cut the fruit in half and squash it down to get the juice out of the orange/lemon.If you peel and slice apples and stew for 10-15 minutes in water with a squirt of lemon juice in then blend with a stick blender I think you should get the same result .I know Sainsburys do my type of juice maker in stainless steel for under a fiver I paid 2/6d for mine back in 1962 and I would love a pound for every orange /lemon I have extracted the juice from0

I have convinced myself I need a juicer, had one years ago that was so much of a faff to wash up I used it twice.
Have they come on much?
Any reccomendations?
My food processor has a juicer attachment but I have never figured out how to use it
What I really want is a Vitamix (note to self: stop watching shopping chanels!) but they are way more than I can afford at the moment.
Thanks
YDSMI wish I would take my own advice!0
