Hi all
Well, can't believe it's that time again already!!!!!! Been starting to think about buying xmas pressies for my children. I have a 2 and a half year old son, and a 5 year old daughter.
I know the things they enjoy playing with but it is so hard to find things that they will actually play with for a length of time.
Would love to get ideas from you all about what your children play with the most and good gift ideas?

Hi,
I don't think I'm going to be much help but last year my son had just turned 3 and I went a bit overboard. I can honestly say that after Xmas day he's hardly looked at much of his toys at all!! I was thinking of having a car boot sale! In saying that, every kid is different I guess but the only thing he plays with regularly is his little cars. I'm know like you and wondering what to buy this year!! It certainly won't be as much as last year that's for sure.
What about a scooter?
Sorry I couldn't help more!Caroline0 -

Hi there
I've Christmas finished for my DD who will be 5 by Christmas. I got her (and me) a ds lite with games as the big pressie , some childrens cds, new crayons/markers, cheap watch as stocking fillers.
I dont give too much from Santa as you can see really it's just the one thing, although I spread the cost and presents around the family, as I've an extended family who all like to give her a gift
On the list is a new doll - baby Anabel/ baby born, dont know yet
Some disney dvds
Dressing up stuff
Clothes
Nothing new or in the most wanted, but she's not the kinda child, just prefers colouring and things

Hi there,
I have a 6 yr old girl and 3 yr old boy. All kids are different, and what one likes the other doesn't but best buys last year were V tech V smile games system. Both kids have taken them everywhere this year and worth their weight in gold for a quiet half hour in the car. Grandparents joined forces and bought Portable DVD player for car/hotels etc...FANTASTIC...never go further than an hour away from home without it! My little girl LOVES her roller skates and both go mad on the drive with the scooters at the mo... I bought them both some wellies (peppa pig and disney cars) last year as a last minute stocking filler (reduced) and they have both loved wearing their special boots in all the rain this summer! I'm stuck this year for my two though...have to get thinking caps on when DD's B-day over with!0 -
MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to the Special Occasions board, where it should get more replies. Do you already have a play kitchen for them? My boys had one and played with it lots as tots and it's the sort of thing that your daughter might join in role play with.
Some other ideas: train set (no doubt you've already got one of these!); puppet theatre; castle and characters; dressing up box and costumes (you might be able to pick a few up from ebay and car boot sales if you start looking now); a huge box of paper, pens, paints and arty crafty bits - perhaps an easel too.
At two and a half one of my sons favourite gifts was a book, which would become a 'must read' for snuggly times on the sofa. Go for something rhyming (we loved 'Fix It Duck' (Jez Alborough) which all our little friends used to ask me to read it when they came to play, and 'Bumpus Jumpus, Dinosaurumpus'. Pop-up ones are fabulous presents too because children like to look at them time and time again. Have you seen the big wind-up train and wind-up tractor story books including three different tracks and stories. (The latter are published by Usborne Publishing so you could host a party and have them as freebies which is very MSE!)
Have fun choosing!

when my little girl was that age all she wanted for christmas was goldfish, so we got her a small aquarium and three fish - she still has them two years later!
on the toys side though, she did get a kitchen which she still plays with ocasionally and lots of "little people" sets- toysrus usually have one or two sets at half price0 -

last year i got my son (who was almost 4) a big playdough set, which had cutters for eggs and bacon, waffles ect and abotu 20 pots of playdough, which i got for about £15 i think in wilkinsons, he loved it and is still playing with it now, in fact he had it all out yesterday, the year before that i got a big box and filled it with paint glue crayons chalk, chalk board, pens, sticking stuff ect and he loved it, i like to go with crafty stuff as he loves making this, something i like to encourage and he loves it and always plays with it for the whole year
hope this helps
