"unlocking sims" - anyone used one?

do they work ? is it a scam ?

i'm not looking at getting one, i'm just curious - i've seen them on ebay for around a fiver, and i'm just interested to know if they work.

I have not tried one, but the technology seems sound even if some phones will not work with them. If you want to know more about the basic technology, Google for Turbo SIM (Wikipedia page to get you started).

I bought mine from dealextreme.com for around $7... work just as expected! Be prepared to cut into your sim... I even have 3g coverage on O2 with mine

i don't really need to unlock my phone at the moment though, but if it's something that does work then I'll certainly look into it when I do.

Cutting the sim wouldn't bother me, as long as i didn't screw it up and make it unusable

I purchased a 'Super X-Sim 4' on ebay last week, it's great peice of technology. It works with my Vario3 (HTC TyTn2) and is compatible with all Nokias. It also has a list of network and handset codes in case you need to reprogram it. It is legal and does not invalidate your warranty. You only need to clip a small square into the plastic section of your sim card, you do not touch the contacts section. It is worth checking out.

Can some one tell me how to set the sim lock on Nokia phone? apparantly you need to set the sim lock to 1234 before you can use the sim unlocker.

I think you only have to do this if you need to reprogram the unlocker.

ive got a tornado unlock sim
bought in pakistan
works a treat with my nokia N82.
just need to cut into sim (i used holepunch)

they are really great pieces of kit, and recently they have released a version that doesnt require cutting! From my research i did find one that is supposed to be better then all the rest. Its an I-SmartPhone. Suppose to work on iphone 3g and 1500 other phones. I bought some myself and even tho its about £15-£20 it does what it says. i have noticed it doesnt unlock the nokia 6300 or it was just how i was putting it in. never the less, its a nice find.
