Yes, the calculation would take into account that the claimant had a lodger. The deduction made would depend on how the relationship was formalised i.e. a sublet or both having a tenancy (there are others - just can't think of them!).
But she said in her original post.. she rented rooms to several of them... why would she need HB if all these lodgers were covering the rent?

Surely this would be irrelevent now as the OP is in a relationship with the person she's sharing with and needs to claim as part of a couple?0 -

From memory I think she said there were 3 of them and now one has gone leaving the 2 described.0 -

Yep, it would be irrelevant now, and they should be claiming as a couple.Gone ... or have I?0 -

You are assuming that it would cover the rent. I am not aware that the OP has said that this is the case?Gone ... or have I?0 -

No 3 in total including the OP.0 -

Right, I am.
I just believed sub letting was illegal when you were on benefits. My friend got kicked out of her friends rented property because of this - it was Council though so I wonder if that makes a difference?
Obviously she is doing it legally because they are deducting money from her benefits, taking into account the rent she is receiving.
She should claim as a couple now anyways.:cool:0 -

The LA has no interest in whether a HB/ LHA claimant sublets their property, as long as they declare this.
Subletting may not be allowed in a council owned property, but this would have no relation to HB/ LHA entitlement, as the two issues are not related.Gone ... or have I?0
