Hi I have decided to use the free o2 unlimited sim card. Is there a way of telling if a number you are dialing is on the o2 network ? ie first three digits etc

    try this one http://www.magsys.co.uk/telecom/codelook.asp

There may be a list somewhere of all 07xxxx numbers
    - but the above link will tell you which network the number started on and I'm not sure what happens about ported numbers.

Garetha, Many thanks for the info. Website is very useful. My wife is on Tesco Mobile PAYG but her number has shown up as on the O2 network. If I was to call her would this count as a free call on the O2 unlimited tariff even though she has a Tesco Mobile tariff?

  • No it would not normally count.

Any list of UK Mobile Numbers can only tell you the network they were originally allocated to.. It cant tell you those that have been ported, neither can it tell you those that have been allocated to Virtual Networks. EG: Tesco,Asda,Virgin, etc.by the main network carrier.

Your see if you look at Magsys it does say.

"Operator: this is operator to whom the number range is allocated by Ofcom, but due to porting of numbers between operators, it is not necessarily the operator to whom the user pays their bill."

What a shame! I thought 'free' meant 'FREE' - but it appears to mean £15 / month:confused:

Thanks for the link Cavey - It's usualy me telling others to Google it first! (shame on me)

For some people it might be worth also looking at Your O2 Numbers on Pay&Go, which costs £5 a month for 10 defined favourite numbers
