I`m not impressed at all with them right now.
My Mum deposited £100 into her savings account last week, and checked her receipt when she got home, only to find that they`d put her money into someone else`s account and given my Mum the other customers details and receipt for the transaction they`d done for her!!!!
So I have no idea who got my Mum`s receipt...
We now have info for the other customer`s name, account numbers, how much she has saved, where she moved money from, and how much her husband has as it was his account that she moved the money from!!!!!
We went into the branch yesterday to sort it out and complain, and they weren`t bothered at all. Still waiting for a call back from the manager...
Bunch of amateurs IMO!!!!0 -

Bunch of amateurs IMO!!!!
I've been waiting two months for a call to tell me why capital and interest took 2 weeks to get from a maturing account into the designated external account.
Obviously I'm not really "waiting": I know there won't be any such call.
I'm not putting in a formal complaint - they make me so angry, it's not good for my health to think about it. I'm just walking - with my feet and funds as accounts mature.0 -
They lost my approved application for an Abbey Zero credit card. Permanently. :mad:They said they had lost a lot of credit card applications a couple of months back too. They suggested I make a fresh application. I decided I could live without it!0

I closed my Abbey credit card 6 months after it was taken over by Santander. The list of things they did wrong is too long to go into here, but they have the worst administration and customer service now of any card I've ever had - and that's saying something!0

OMG, been looking for a post like this on the current accounts boards, but couldn't find it. I knew people were having problems with abbey, but didn;t realise to what extent. Up until this month, they'd always been fine, but they've been an absolute nightmare since. I will elaborate coz i'm sooooo annoyed.
Having seen the tesco savings account offer recently, I decided I would like to move some money over. I have 2 chq books for one abbey account and wasn't sure if both were active, so I called abbey and they told me both were fine and to use either. Having no reason not to doubt them, I wrote a chq for £3k to tesco. about 2 weeks later, money was still in my abbey account, i thought this was strange so contacted tesco, they said it was all fine, chq was being processed. few days later i get a letter from tesco, there is a problem with my account, and i need to call them. i get in touch with tesco, seems the chq i sent them was stopped as it was reported as either lost/stolen. Luckily, they allow me to bank transfer money to them instead of sending another chq. :j well done tesco
In the meantime, my 8% abbey account has finished its 1 year of receiving 8%, so i decide to close it. all closed fine, and the kind cashier even lets me know that I am eligible to open another 8% account straight away.
so i make an appointment to open new account, all done quite quickly, but account opener is unable to link new current account to old current account. she assumes it is because the account is so new and agrees to put it in her diary for the next day.
next day i check online, lo and behold, new account is not showing. i get abbey to call me via their website and after speaking to several different people, they inform that due to the fact i have 2 debit cards they are unable to link the account, and i would need to log in seperately for each account. to me this sounds wrong, as my 2 previous accounts each with their own debit cards were linked with no problem. I go into branch and cashier informs me she will look into it and speak to the girl who opened my account.
I check a few days later, account still not linked.so i go into branch again, ask for the money to be transferred out of my 8% account into my standard account. cashier is reluctant to do so, but i argue that i haven;t yet received my new debit card, i can;t access internet for new account and that i have ID. money get transferred.
back on website now, i tranfer 5k from my standard account to my tesco account, money shows as having left my account straight away. :T things seems to be going better for me.
I check again 2 hours later, and the 5k seems to be back in my account. plus i recieve a letter from HBOS regarding switching of my DD's and SO's to them, they say abbey cannot confirm my date of birth which they state and is correct. I contact abbey to query my DOB, which they confirm is correct. i enquire regarding my 5k payment to tesco, girl on the phone says it's showing on their system, but not sure why it's not showing on statment, but not to to worry.
I log in online today and seems my access has been restricted, need to call an 0845 number (i find alternative) fraud dept. has picked up on large transfer, they cancel the payment and block my account as they were unable to contact me. after confirming security questions, access is granted, payment to tesco sent. :j
DD's and SO's still waiting to switch, online banking for my 8% account still not linked to ordinary account.
Moral of the story, if u like hassle, bank with abbey, if u don't, avoid them like the plague.i will be making formal complaint to abbey, which will probably get ignored. once my dd's and so's swithc to hbos, i will close all my abbey accounts down.0 -
Ihave noticed this general downturn too. My local branch has been shortstaffed for over a year now and there is never- and I do mean never- anyone free to work on the reception desk so if you have a query you have to wait in a line at the cashiers or hunt around 'backstage' for someone who isn't actively helping a customer. They have also had a problem at head office which has resulted in a lot of charges not being taken from accounts and their way of dealing with this is to 'log the calls' of those of us who go into the branch to ask about this (I don't know if this means that those canny enough not to ask won't have to pay, lol...).
But the thing that is really bugging me is how little they are able to do in the branch now- everything you want- direct debits, standing orders, the majority of queries- has to be done over the phone instead, which is incredibly difficult when the people in the international call centre have so much difficulty understanding anything that is not completely basic. This isn't a dig at them (I couldn't handle a complex call in a second language myself!) but it is a real issue. According to the cashier I pointed this out to, calls should go to a UK call centre between 9 and 5 but they certainly don't and that's leaving aside the fact that most of us work between 9 and 5 anyway!0 -
I agree they are awful. You can never speak to your branch or even someone english. And in branch you wait for 30 mins to get served. They charged me £30 for going £9 over drawn this month which has made me very angry as I am jobless at the moment and dont have spare cash. Its disgusting.0

Reading the Times' letter page, scarcely a day goes past without at least one letter of complaint about Abbey.
My sister had horrible problems with them, my parents did...but I have been lured onto an Abbey Zero card - no BT fee was too good to resist.
Will be using it for 6 months then closing and forgetting all about them, though...No interest in giving these people any chance to make money out of me.0 -
Funny how opinions vary. I have never had a problem with Abbey and have been with them for donkeys years.
I never go in a branch, I do all my banking online, I have a current and an internet saver a/c.
I hope you all get your problems resolvedBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -
Does anyone have an official `high-up` address to write to at Abbey?
Re my previous post, we still haven`t had any confirmation that the £100 has been returned to Mum`s account, despite making 4 calls to CS who have said they will get the branch concerned to contact us.
I want to vent my spleen at them in writing!!!0
