Road Tax Disc - when to put on the new one?

My road tax expires end of this month. I have got my new tax disc. When can i put it on?

I know that strictly speaking the new disc should be displayed on the 1st of the month it starts from. In the past near the end of the month i used to display the new disc next to the old one in case i forget to change it on time. Nowdays with all data easily available by the police through their cameras all they have to do is scan the reg no to see if it is taxed or not. Would they not object if the disc was changed a few days earlier?
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

it doesnt matter when you change it,as long as the expiry date has not passed.

ive got my new one waiting to go on,just havent bothered to do it yet.

Probably not, but a Parking Warden or Joe Public could report your car for not having a valid tax disc on show. Regardless of what the DVLA/PNC data is...

I always thought it was an offence not to display a current tax disc. Strictly that would mean swapping them over at midnight on the last day of the month.

I put mine on when I receive it........

Have I done something wrong by doing that? It shows expiry date ... does it have a display from date too... ?? If so, that is ridiculous.

Yes you have if the old disc is not also on display. The offence is "Fail to display a valid RFL disc." Your new disc isn't valid until the first of the following month.

How stupidly ridiculously pc and ar5seholish ..........

Oh - I live in GB - forgotten for a moment, we have stupid laws to live by here.... I pay my tax in advance and could get penalised...

If I didn't buy tax, insurance and drove a wreck, sponged off the goverment for everything, then no doubt I would be fine... The fact that I work hard and am not a poncing lowlife and pay my taxes and bills etc., means that I do not conform to society of the wonderful GB as we now know it. Brill...

    What next..

What happened to common sense in all of this??

    Phew......

    Feel better now ....

The 'display' rule is to allow anyone to see at a glance that the vehicle is taxed. This doesn't strike me as ridiculous or stupid or pc or @rseholish.

Of course you can display next year's in advance. You just can't stop displaying the outgoing one.
