Well, as above, having seen Steve-Digicams conclusion on the Samsung, (I rate him very highly), the Samsung was always on a loser from my own personal point of view.
Bottom line - the Samsung Digimax U-CA 5 is an affordable compact digicam that produced mediocre results. While it is a speedy performer, I was a little disappointed with the amount of noise present in its 5-megapixel Super Fine images. With a street price of around $249, it does offer a good value, especially for those who are just entering the digital world. However, if you're in the market for a 5- megapixel consumer camera, we suggest you also take a look at some other models.
Having handled both in boots this evening, the Olympus wins hands down, on ergonomics, build quality, compactness and ease of use.
As for the possible "plus" points of the Samsung, I'll point out that the difference in video quality between the two, is the difference between footage that is crap and footage that is crap, surely nobody actually uses a digital camera for recording video? The MSE Dictionary

surely you mean Olympus right? Is there a Canon one on special??A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

Here's a comparative view of the Olympus; http://www.behardware.com/articles/575-4/survey-11-ultra-flat-cameras.html
There's always a reason as to why these things are discounted.
Actually the video quality of the Samsung would be a fair bit better than the Olympus.
Thinking about the Samsung, as girlfriend is willing to exchange my Advantage points for cash.
The pictures and video on the review site don't look bad at all. I'd like the Samsung's features in a body the size of the 5500.0 -

A point to note when considering buying cameras is always the application or the user, thus based on the user I'm giving it to, I went for the Olympus. The MSE Dictionary

That's indeed why I'm considering the Samsung. Looking at the test pics, it is by no means a shoddy camera, especially at the price.
I like the size of the Olympus and the price and capabilities of the Samsung.0 -
Couldn't use any of the £15 off vouchers but it accepted the £10 voucher. Still it's a good deal. An early Xmas present to me.No reliance should be placed on the above.0

I plumped for the Samsung and 2700 Advantage Points.
The price and the ability to capture VGA(640x480) video at 30fps swayed my decision.0 -
I cant get the extra points using the code that Boots supply on line EJAKXX (taken last two digits out to comply with site rules). It states I get the 1559 and enter details and payment but surely it should show the extra points in basket. I dont want to click on after entering payment just in case no discount is applied.
Looks like offre has changed too, you now only get 1519 points and a 1000 points If that part works, so its now 2519 £25.19 cash.0
