I find all the other's are not to keen on vista...this work's great with it...
All major anti virus programs work with Vista0 -
Make sure that you take note of the McAfee Removal Tool before you attempt to install anything else.
Was your McAfee just a anti virus solution? What is the name of the program?0 -

Thank you
It's called the McAfee Security Centre. I got it free for a year when I switched provider to Sky.0 -
Avast put ~1 minute on my boot up time, which just wasn't good enough. Having switched to AVG, I think I would recommend it.
Overall, I cannot recommend enough the practice of Safe Computing, whereby you do not open or download anything that you are unsure of. In 10 years of being a daily user of computers I have never had a virus problem. Never. To hear Marty J talk about having 27 worms and Trojans on their PC is extremely worrying.Super geek.0 -

Perhaps you should adjust the settings as to which drives/folders are being scanned and the level of the scans, which can be set at Quick, Standard or Thorough.
Once installed and thoroughly scanned, the Quick scan setting should be sufficient for future use.
I would recommend Avast.
As you can tell, we all have our personal preferences.0 -

I'm not certain it was running a boot-time scan at all, else I would have disabled it. *shrug* I had my other reasons, I didn't like the interface much either. Even as an advanced user I prefer the AVG interface, which has been criticized for being a little basic.
Thanks for the tip though, mate. I'm certain that Avast is an excellent solution to the AV problem, with the added luxury of not paying for it, and there being other free programs available; a luxury which is lost when paying for an AV solution.Super geek.0 -

I would like to point out that it was my sister's PC. If you can stop her from clicking whatever takes her fancy, you're a better man than I!
I use a Mac (and I still don't open anything suspicious!).0 -
I use AVG, and have had no problems, as of yet!! A couple of times now when my son has been on t, it has picked up on viruses, so i am happy!!! I have also used spybot, search and destroy, but find avg easier!!!0
