Which free anti-virus software?

Options
My 1 year free subscription to Macafee has expired today.:(

What is the best free software that could be recommended for me to install? Have Vista if that makes any difference :)

Mucho thanks :)

I installed Avira AntiVir on my sister's laptop awhile ago, and it seems pretty good. On its first scan, it picked up 27 different worms and trojans missed by AVG.

    How about http://www.avast.com/

    Always worked for me.

you should only really use one, i personally like AVG and tend to advise it for people who are not technically minded as it is very easy to use and understand.

Along with AVG i normally put on Malewarebytes on to peoples systems its very good at getting rid of some of the other nasties that might be lurking on your computer.

Oh jeezo...now I am panicking I will choose the wrong one!!! Am such a girl when it comes to this kind of thing...I was even going to pay for a year's subscription with Macafee just to save hassle!! But then I slapped myself and told myself not to be such a muppet!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm sure this question has been asked - and answered - many many times so I really appreciate the help :)

DON@T PAY anything for antivirus.....most of them are CRAP the free ones are just fine for a normal home user.....AVG can slow your pc down though (though it is pretty good)

I now use Avira which again is free (i removed AVG because it slowed my pc down even though i have a high spec PC)

Avast i have never tried but have heard its pretty good

so the choice is yours BUT do not pay for one please there really is no need
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right
