Windows Message - is it a hacker?

A message has started appearing on my PC along with an icon I have never seen!

The message that appears if I hover over the star symbol says 'you may be a victim of software counterfieting'.

Sometimes another balloon appears that takes me to a page that says the same but that also appears to be an american site.

I havent got any software on my pc other than what was provided with it when I originally bought it.

Does anyone know if this is some kind of hacking or if it is just a usual Microsoft message.

can we have a link to the site? that it directs you to? sounds like some sort of spyware

the american site wouldn't be microsoft would it? not sure what the warning is with dodgy copies of windows XP, but this sounds about right

Go to whoever you bought your computer from and make them put on a legit copy of XP on.

Thats the message that comes up globalds!

The software has been on the PC since I bought it - which was about 5 years ago!

if it;s a branded Pc ..ie Dell or HP it may be a mistake

Its a Phillips one.

There is - its got a product keycode on it.
