Tesco - misleading

A few times recently I've picked things off the shelf in Tesco and when I've gone to pay for them, they have been a lot more expensive than I thought.
Twice with Lemsip - shelf price saying £1.76 or so, get to the till and they are over £3. When I queried it they said the price on the shelf is for the capsules and I've got the drinks - which is fair enough, but there were no capsules on the shelf and the price was below the packet I picked up.
Aloe vera gel I picked up thinking was £2, came up as over £3 at the till and she went back and looked and said only the lip balm was £2 and someone had put them the wrong way round on the shelf.
Today I picked up what I thought was a value bike lock for £3, didn't check my receipt until I got home and found I'd actually been charged £6.97. I've taken it out of the packet now and changed the combination so I don't think I can return it! I only bought it because I thought it was £3
I realise that all these are probably my own fault for not looking at the small writing on the labels underneath but if you see a packet of Lemsip and it says Lemsip £1.76 underneath then you assume it's referring to the one above it!
I wonder if this is deliberate or accidental, has anyone else noticed? I am going to start looking more carefully at the labels from now on *and* make sure I check the receipts before I leave the store.

There is an art to packing and checking prices at the PoS concurrently. If you notice it at the time you can challenge and reject the item at the time. No-one in the queue will be your new best friend if you query the price at that point and send floor staff scuttling off to check prices. Woe betide you if the checkout assistant hits the sub-total button before you notice the discrepency...go straight to customer services for your refund, do not pass go and do not collect £200.
I also thoroughly recommend that you use your independent community pharmacist for fair prices and good professional advice.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

As a retail worker, I really dislike people who don't read the labels properly then go in all guns blazing when you are in the wrong."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

it doesnt even matter even the cashier has hit subtotal she can still void an item or get the price checked, (i used to work on a checkout in tesco) the items being misplaced on the shelves can be for a number of reasons.
1: the staff member hasnt checked the shelf label to the product properly( which can happen sometimes)
2: a customer has changed their mind about a product and put it back randomly on the shelve i have seen this happen before.
if you notice a problem on your receipt then mention it to the staff you may not get the item for the price you thought but you will get the refund and a sincere apology..

I wonder how many people dont even notice the difference,no wonder Tesco make a huge profit.Recently whilst shopping online, the prices on the site have been different to what i have been charged on my reciept by quite a jump ie 75p-£1.00,when ive queried this ive been told that prices can change from when i place the order till they are delivered.I disputed this as there is no way they should go up by as much.I asked the C.S operator if i am just supposed to guess what the overall price will be and hope i have enough in my account to cover the huge difference, she didnt give a hoot, till i told her to send the van driver back to my home to collect the items i had been overcharged on and give me a refund. She wasnt long in giving me back what i had been overcharged. At the end of the day i am only agree to buy the goods at the price i am quoted not at the made up price that Tesco try to con me out of.I now check my grocery line thoroughly every week and would advise other to do the same.Every little helps IN MY POCKET.0

Oh really, then why are the staff in at the Barkingside branch so rude, ignorant and adamant that change is not an option  ? They never apologise, when I was there last a staff member actually said "it's the customer's fault"!! Sincere and probably heartfelt but not nice
.
I will begrudingly admit that for the short time I lived in Trafford last year, staff at the Altrincham branch are very helpful, Sale is also v. handy for parking but I won't shop in Tesco now if because there is an inconsistent effort on the part of management to instill a customer service ethos in their staff.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Since individual pricing gave way to SELs the potential for error became immense.
In fairness to both parties, supermarkets sell so many products it must be difficult to keep every shelf as it needs to be to enable the customer to choose the correct item, and for the customer to understand which item is on offer, or just which price belongs where!
The bargains invariably end up in the wrong place - it happens so much that surely some thought should go into this now? Labels don't always match the product exactly when they are correct - so how on earth do we know?
I returned to Mr T with a whole load of bogofs that failed on the self service - the response was that those tills had been missing the bogofs for some time. Well, why isn't there a warning then, or some action taken? Couldn't be that it is in Mr T's favour surely? :rolleyes:0 -
it does tell you on the website that the price quoted is an estimate and will be updated when your shopping is picked and pricedI wonder how many people dont even notice the difference,no wonder Tesco make a huge profit.Recently whilst shopping online, the prices on the site have been different to what i have been charged on my reciept by quite a jump ie 75p-£1.00,when ive queried this ive been told that prices can change from when i place the order till they are delivered.I disputed this as there is no way they should go up by as much.I asked the C.S operator if i am just supposed to guess what the overall price will be and hope i have enough in my account to cover the huge difference, she didnt give a hoot, till i told her to send the van driver back to my home to collect the items i had been overcharged on and give me a refund. She wasnt long in giving me back what i had been overcharged. At the end of the day i am only agree to buy the goods at the price i am quoted not at the made up price that Tesco try to con me out of.I now check my grocery line thoroughly every week and would advise other to do the same.Every little helps IN MY POCKET.

If I have to dispute the sel in a supermarket,I go back and take it off the shelf and take it to the staff on the till.
You can check the barcode number on the sel against the barcode numbes on the item,to make sure it's the same.0 -
If I think I've been overcharged for something, I go back and check it to make sure it's not my mistake, then go to CS and when they go to the shelf to check, I go with them.
I never go in 'all guns blazing' because I make sure I'm right in the first place.
I do find that quite a few mis-pricings happen because an offer has ended but the sel hasn't been changed.
Tesco, Sainsburys & Somerfield have always honoured these.0
