I Want to Edit PDF Files

Hi

I have a few pdf documents where I want to make minor changes. Using Open Office I can make documents into pdf files but can't open pdf files to edit and then resave them. Does anyone know of an easy way to do this? Thanks.

Martin

Thank you Tanglefoot. I've just tried that as an evaluation and it works well but leaves large red chunks of writing on each page edited unless I pay 99 dollars to buy it. Do you know of any other programs? Something free and open source would be nice but maybe I'm asking too much!
  • All a PDF is, is a compressed postscript file.

Not free or open source, but Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia FreeHand will do the job for you...

    Erm... no, not really. :o

There are utilities - such as this one - that claim to convert PDF into something else, but I've no idea whether they're any good.

tbh if you need to edit files then they are best left unconverted to pdf. People seem a bit overly keen on pdf formats these days, ok there are obvious benefits but some big downsides too...

Thanks everyone. It seems that pdf if very much one way. If changes are needed then working on the source file and resaving as pdf seems to be the recommended route. Unfortunately there are one or two files where I don't have access to the originals. As these documents are only a few pages long and I just want to remove a couple of things from one page, I might scan them, modify the image files and then turn them back to pdf.
