I made a big mistake and swapped my Sky connection for Supanet because it was cheaper.
Supanet said their wireless router was £50 so i said no and kept my netgear router. The only problem I can't get this to work. I have all my settings from Supanet to connect to the router but i don't know where to enter them. I rang Netgear who said enter 192.168.01 and then the username was admin and password is password, but this doesn't connect. Netgear say my router is broken but I know it isn't, it was working only days ago with my old provider.

I'm not going to give all the details here (partly because I've just got home), but a quick google will get them for you. If you have the netgear 834GT then it is dead easy to flash the firmware from the netgear site onto the router, opening it up to all suppliers, rather than just sky, I did it...Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

Ok thanks. Not sure if I have Netgear 834GT though. I can't seem to find out which model it is0 -
Assuming it is the Sky Netgear (White) router its possible to flash it, if you register on https://www.skyuser.co.uk you will find info on how to do it.That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Probably stupid answer but can you not just use a pin and reset it at the back?0

That would just reset the Sky firmware back to default settings. To use a Sky router on another ISP it needs generic firmware to be installed e.g. not Sky customised. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Sky have their own firmware in the routers they supply, they are delivered with a Sky username and password preprogrammed in which is not accessable by the casual user.
It has always been a point of contention with some Sky broadband users who wish to use their own routers, which is against Skys t&cs.
The advantage is that the router works straight out of the box (or should do). That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
ah right, told you I thought it was perhaps a silly answer
I set up wireless for someone on PO broadband and their routers come pre programmed but I used a different wireless router once we got the settings from PO.0
