I ate in chilli's last friday with a group... we ordered drinks including a lemonade and the [american] waitress returned with the beers and declared "we dont' have any lemonade, only iced tea". we then asked if they had fizzy orange "nope, only pure orange". it seemed a bit odd so after she left we flicked through the menu only to see sprite and fanta clearly shown! called her back and pointed this out to her and she said "oh sorry, i've lived here for three years but i didn't know fizzy orange was fanta and sprite was a lemonade substite - you've taught me something tonight"

They also got our starter orders wrong and mixed up the drinks orders almost every round. I thought my burger was average, those that had steak weren't overly impressed either. the portions were enormous and hardly anyone cleared their plate. to cap it all, a round of undrinkable margueritas ("our speciality!") was ordered and there was so much salt IN the glass (not round it) that they were undrinkable. I liked the concept of a decent tex-mex style place in belfast, but it really didn't live up to the promise and I doubt i'll be back (certainly not if i'm paying!)
  • Magginanos is amazing! I've been to the one in Vegas several times and i'm really excited about one opening here! :D

  • I was in Chilis the other night and the service was very good. The food was delicious... but I think it was a little expensive.
  • Forget Magginanos. In a couple of months time there is a Dante's opening next to TGI's. Now I have been to one of those in Dublin a couple of times and the food is fantastic, and very reasonably priced.
  • Went to Chillis tonight, Have to say I wasn't really impressed. The server was great the food was just ok but expensive for what it was. I had the chicken fajitas and it didn't come sizzling to the table. A little disappointed. Looking forward to the other places opening.

DId the Chinese Buffet ever open in Victoria Square? None listed on the Victoria Square website. If it is open, is it any good and what is the cost? Thanks.

    Not that I'm aware of.

The eateries in Victoria Square are, in my view, diabolical. Overpriced rubbish. That Dante's place is just awful. Pizza Express and McDonalds are about the only places where you can be guaranteed of getting what you pay for.

I'll stick to the quality, independent restaurants, of which there are some fine examples in Belfast. :)

I tried Gourmet Burger Kitchen and thought it was ok (although it helped that I had a BOGOF voucher from MSE ;)) but, otherwise, I pretty much agree that the overall standard of eateries in VS is generally poor.

OH tried Maggianos (sp?) with work colleagues and wasn't impressed at all. I think the term he used was 'plastic' Italian food...

I went to Maggianos with my other half and we thought it was very good. They had authentic Italin dishes, not just the usual fare served up at 'Italian' restaurants (like lasagne and bolognese, which actually doesn't exist, it is actually ragu), they have dishes such as Saltimbocca, which means jump in mouth, and veal picatta. It was busy, had a nice atmosphere, plenty of friendly helpful staff too.

Also tried GBK and have to say I thought the burger was excellent.:T
