No Water Bill!

in Water bills
Im just after abit of advice as Ive been living in rented property for 22 months and as yet had no water bill. I originally contacted the water supplier when I moved in & was told someone would get back in touch (they didnt). Then about 6mths ago I started to worry about a huge bill arriving that I wouldnt be able to afford so contacted them again. This time they got back to me saying that when the house Im living in was built (approx 26mths ago) they couldnt get access to fit a meter and thats why ive had no bill and that Id have to arrange to get a meter fitted. I have since heard nothing, and have never had anything in writing, just a telephone call. Is it really my responsibilty to get this sorted? It seems that the water company cant be that bothered about me paying if its being left like this?? Anyway, I have been told that there is a piece of legislation claiming that utility companies must bill you within 1 year (it used to be 2 years apparently?) or they cant charge you after this time had elapsed. Can anyone please clarify this as Ive been trying to look into this but got no joy so far!!

That legislation is only for gas and electricity, not water.
It is unusual for new built houses not to have a meter fitted as it is part of the planning permission to provide provision.
Has your communication been in writing or on the telephone?0 -
It has only been done by telephone. Even after I have (twice) given them my details, they have never written to me. We have checked the house thoroughly and there is definately no meter, and when the water company checked with their New Connections dept, they had came to fit a meter at some point before the house was completely finished but were unable to gain access.0

Normally meters are fitted at the border(garden) of the property not in the house. Look for a small metal inspection cover.
I suggest you are are placing too much relliance on telephone conversations - not that you should be responsible for chasing them.
If you want to get it sorted, write to them and then put some money away in an account and earn some interest.
The problem with situations like this is they eventually end up with debt collection agencies and court cases. Even though you are blameless, they don't want to know.0 -
You might get a very rude surprise when I bill does turn for a very large sum.Buy for value not cost.
