It turned out it WAS actually PayPal, but it was so stupid...
PP: Hello, can I speak to Mr Bennett please?
me: Speaking.
PP: Hello Mr Bennett. It's Rashindra from PayPal here. Just to check I'm speaking to you, for security can you confirm your bank account number please?
me: You're serious?
PP: Yes. It's for security.
me: How do I know you're really PayPal?
PP: I promise you sir, we are PayPal.
me: Prove it. Tell me my bank account number.
..........

Hilarious! I must remember to try that next time...0 -
All very amusing but the poor guy was just doing what he has been requested to do. Hes like the majority of us trying to earn a crust of bread and is not paid to be shouted at. If it were me I put the phone down on you.
If that was you and you'd called to sell me something, and then you put the phone down, I'd be happy
Personally, if someone called me and asked for security details, the conversation wouldn't last so long and I'd tell them they'd have to write or send a secure message to my account (paypal don't have that, I know). You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0 -
The CSA at Falkirk take great pleasure in asking me the following questions:-
National insurance number
Date of birth
Full name
Full address including postcode
Telephone number including dialling code
Daughter's name
Daughter's date of birth
Ex-partner's name
.......then they are willing to speak to me
Belfast CSA however ask me the first 2 or 3 questions.......0 -

edit - ah - CSA = child support agency - I guess you'd need an ex-partner in that case, but not necessarily a daughter...You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0 -
My daughter phone to check her balance, and the security question was "What is the current balance of your account?"0

It would be good if some companies applied a bit of security themselves when opening accounts.
SkyCard (run by Barclaycard) allowed someone to open online a credit card in my name using my previous address (which I'd left 6 months previously). When they chased me for the debt, I asked to see the ID and proof of address they'd received when opening the account. Their Fraud Dept let slip that it's not required for an on-line application! They are supposed to take "Due care" under the Consumer Credit Act, but that's all.
And they had the cheek to say I was the victime of ID fraud - I reminded them that it was they who were the victim of their lack of security - after all the fraudster was probably off opening lots of other accounts in other peoples' names, spending £1000 on each, money Skycard will never get back. No wonder credit card interest rates are so high!!0 -
Oh, and although they had taken no ID from the fraudster, before dealing with my complaint they wanted a copy of my passport!0

Is this when they ring you unsolicited, or when you ring them?Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries0 -

The CSA ring me? you must be joking !
No, it's when I ring them - I 'lost' it with them once, after putting my national insurance number and date of birth in via the keypad, the operator asked me for the same details, I said "I've just put that information in the phone' and the operator refused to help me any further if I didn't give her the details she asked for. I gave them to her but in my fastest, mumbliest voice (childish I know but she made me angry with her attitude). She then proceeded to ask me a long list of 'security questions' and ever since then every Falkirk officer does the same !0
