Yeah I'm sure if the situation was reversed youd enjoy the advice you just gave.
Why, woby, do you constantly insist there is no problem with todays house prices? Why do you allways try to get people do buy a house with advice like what you just proposed.
Would you WANT to live with a mate?
Or treat a girlfriend as a lodger?
Would you want to HAVE to do this?
How come you simply can not bring yourself to admit houses are well over priced? Please please explain why, because its beyond me, and I know from a lot of your posts that you are far...FAR from being un-educated.
Theres something, there and I need to know, have you mew'd up badly are you one of lifes mega tight gets who sees losing a quid as virtualy armagedon?0 -
I don't think I've ever advocated buying a house for the sake of it(unlike others who'll advocate not buying a house purely for the fact that they are a bit aggrieved they can't/won't themselves regardless of any other facts surrounding the reason for purchase), if you read the previous post the majority was about someone who was trying to work out a budget.
That said, if after all sums have been worked out on owning(or for that matter renting) you end up with £700+ disposable income and still see it as a bad deal(especially when still at the start of a career, and one with potentially large rewards within a few years) then I'd say you'll be perpetually disappointed. My suggestions about sharing a property weren't based on making the property affordable or viable like in some cases, this was creating more disposable income for someone who seemingly would prefer a greater 'allowance' than they currently have forecast.
That said I'm guessing with a forthcoming marriage you are averse to sharing a property with your wife? I find it hard to believe you've never encountered a situation where someone owns a property and has a partner live with them contributing to bills, likewise firends sharing properties. Maybe you've been on holiday too much and the sun has got to you?0 -

Your first post was a rant, certainly not asking for advice, and your vehemence disproportionate to your situation.
House prices in your area may well have shot up but my first home in London in 1999 cost around the same as you're looking at now. My respect goes to the many people on these boards currently saving like mad to be able to afford even a 'dump' of a one bedroom flat without mortgaging themselves up to the eyeballs, and bringing informative debate to this forum, not self pity and yes, petulance; I haven't seen anyone else SHOUTING on this board?

Clearly the market has gone crazy and is denying many first time buyers the hope of getting on the property ladder. Are there self build projects out there? Clearly these projects require electricians, carpenters, plumbers, plasters,architects, and lots of help.

we allready live together that must have been aparent, maybe i over estimated your inteligence ( spelling on my part apart) or under estimated your ability to dodge a real answer.
Thats the thing with pro buyers they have no actuall back to their answers I now firmly believe you have mewd badly I might be wrong and as the internerd allways provides us with liars I will never know but hey I'm happy0 -

I would have said:
Water - more like £25
Gas & Electricity - more like £50 for both
TV license is £10 plus change
Telephone - should be able to get more like £15
Car - should be closer to £50, we don't spend anything like £600 a year on either of our cars.
And you should be able to squeeze some of the others with a bit of effort.
I think the scary thing is that however ripped-off dean_ham feels, he's pretty well-off for a twenty-year old. £28K is a goodly salary for his age and compared with the house prices in his area. I was talking to my brother last night, he earns £17K and lives in Leeds where house prices have rocketed in the last few years. There's no way he's going to buy even a flat unless something miraculous happens in his career, there's a serious house price crash, or he gets together with a wealthy woman. I think the last is the most likely, to be honest.0 -

Shockingly yes, in fact for the last 11 years or so I've lived with various mates, I liked one so much I married her.

Probably more the phrasing on my behalf but if you want to take evrything literally then I'll assume you're fiance pays no contribution to your household, that's fine if it works for you.

House prices where I am don't help me either, I wouldn't fancy moving up the ladder currently purely due to pricing levels, but I'm also not going to be awkward enough to suggest that everyone else does likewise because I'm a bit aggrieved at the situation, that's up to individual choices with individual circumstances, unlike some others who think their circumstances are 'standard' for everyone else on the board. And finally no I'm not mew'd at all, not that it need concern you.0
